Faith C Hey folks, anyone here in Career Changers transitioned onto a completely new plane (different from what you were trained in), or moved on to different paths in the same field? Please share on your challenges, motivations, and thoughts. Thanks!

The hardest part for me is letting go of my old identity, even though I'm incredibly excited about the future. It's hard to say no to projects you know you'd be good at, even if they are no longer the right fit for you.

I decided to go back to school and finish my bachelor's degree in Communications to get a career in recruitment. Talk about a switch!
However, I am ready for the drastic change to take flight. I have friends and family supporting my decision to take on a new venture.
The challenge is probably the most attractive attribute to my switching careers. I have been feeling stagnate at my place of work. Being the social person that I am, I feel this will be better suited for me, and has more room for growth.

Best advice I can give someone in a career change, is that you never know until you try. You live once, so take on what it is you dream of doing. No regrets! Work hard! You can achieve happiness at a work place if you follow your desires.

Ritika Sanghi woes of offshore software development ? anyone had a bad experience getting software outsourced from another country? What failed? avenues for improvement?

110 weeks ago from Business Development

Ritika Sanghi: Scalability of course! And along with that performance is another thing often ignored. Test driven development is also not prevalent.

Then again, I understand the culture and work ethics of my developers as I was born in that country.
The difference in culture especially of that in South Asia makes it difficult for outsourcing.

Meghan Skiff Any tips on what to pack for SXSW, specifcally what types of clothes? I also have to pack for another work trip earlier in the week so I have to be strategic! :)

Ryan Paugh Hey guys, I want to start working on a Brazen Meet-Up over SXSW weekend. Any native Austinites in the house that can help me find a venue? For the rest of you, I'm thinking about a Saturday afternoon Happy Hour. Thoughts?

Richard Visotcky I just read the following article with advice from Dr. Sharon Lamm-Hartman and thought people here might find some relevance in their own lives. Combined with some of the posts below, like the one from Zohaib, it may help give people the push they need to start down a new path! http://adage.com/talentworks/article?article_id=141421

Unfortunately that still does not apply if one stays in a foreign country using a working visa (I am from Japan and works as a technical writer in Taiwan). In that case we should still be extra careful not to damage any relationship because we don't have access to the local society's "inner circles." I believe she is spot-on about making up our mindset though.

Zohaib R I am doing this and I think I am ready: I am quitting my job (it's a great position and pays very well but everyday in the morning, I have to force myself not to call in sick). I am about to give it all up to work on my venture. So far it has been a great experience, from incorporation to hiring developers, but having no steady income scares me. Any body else went through this experience and like to share their perspective :)

Zohaib you are headed in the right direction with following your dream and starting your own venture. Stop making someone else rich and put the ball in your court. You should read the Magic of Thinking Big and How I Raised Myself from Failure to Success. Both great reads. I hated my job to and decided to start my own network marketing business and did alot of research. Their are alot of 95% thinkers out their that will try and tell you to work for someone else, but us 5% are rare and you need to keep going after your dream.
