Pete Collins Do you delete any of your blog posts? My blogging is quite variable in terms of quality, so should I get rid of some older ones that I don't really like, don't link to, and have hardly got any views? It would increase the average quality of my posts, but decrease the quantity. What do you do?

Perhaps you didn't have a clear goal in mind when you started blogging? Go back and re-focus those old posts, clean up the writing and add some SEO into them to bring them up to speed.

Cameron Plommer Do you have a personal website? Is do you own your name's domain? For my job search I set up my personal website and branded it to strengthen my career. If this is something you have been thinking about doing or don't really know how to start, I'd like to offer my services and get you started. Whether it's setting up the domain, hosting, Wordpress, strategizing or writing the copy, maybe I can help your job search out. Tweet, message, or email me if you are interested.

I am not able to pay for the $20 "dot com" website, so I opted to 're-route' my website using a service called "www.dot.tk" it took my long "danverchandler.yolasite.com" website and turned into "mschandler.tk" I've re-routed everything. If you've worked for social media companies, then it will be obvious, but if it was only part of job, you will have to be specific as to what your actual involvement and responsibilities were and how effective were the results of your efforts. Was it a team effort or did you work independently? And what aspect of social media are you looking in for work? You have to be more specific. Since social media is online, you should be able to give URLs to those sites that you were involved in. Best in your search.

Ryan Healy "10 Ways Generation Y Will Change The Workplace" - http://bit.ly/AlrXh. I wrote this post in May of 2008 after a year and a half of researching, blogging, and speaking about Generation Y. I made 10 simple predictions that I thought would make the workplace better for everyone. Since then, I've received over 140 comments on the post and even had a few people write in to tell me that some of my predictions are coming true.

I love it; have a couple comments on each line. Interested in your thoughts.

1. We'll Hold Only Productive Meetings
- Agreed; we know 'time is money'. Only 'tiny' difference I've seen in the workplace is our meetings tend to have 3-5 minutes of "social" time at the beginning or end. A bit more than a typical conservative older company - but I believe this is because we value peers and relationships more.

2. We'll Shorten the Work Day
- Agreed that we are more efficient and will / can do more in less time, however my "work day" as well as most of the execs I know that are my age is 'longer' in that we are so used to being 'connected', we are all always looking at our iphones and BBs, etc. whereas the older generations don't necessarily have the habits we do.

3. We'll Bring Back the Administrative Assistants
- Interesting. I sure hope so! Is this happening? I've always had the privilege of using my CEOs or having one of my ops managers cover other things, but I'm all onboard to bring this on!

4. We'll Redefine Retirement
- Wow. You just defined my life before it happened. I've been working 90 hour weeks (by choice) for 7 years and am now consulting (and makign more money than I ever did before) in what I would define as a vacation - I can only work 20 hours / week...and am leaving with my husband to travel at the end of the month.

5. We'll Find Real Mentors
I couldn't agree with you more. I just started a blog otu of boredom ( ; and this was my first real post; mentors - http://bit.ly/908G86

6. We'll Restore Respect to the HR Department
Great call

7. We'll Promote Based on Emotional Intelligence
Love it

8. We'll Continue to Value What Our Parents Have to Offer
Dead on. I've taken my parents to every office I've had and even brought my father into one of my C level meetings so he could learn how marketing at the Washington Post works.

9. We'll Enjoy Higher Starting Salaries
Thus far, I have...fingers crossed that I continue..

10. We'll Re-invent the Performance Review
Always worked on weekly and monthly goals...tied my salary into monthly OI and reviews.

I think the top tier investors are typically top tier based on their deep industry knowledge and contacts. I don't want to be accused of splitting hairs here, but I think it's important to go for investors who are either top tier, or who are "top tier caliber."

In all cases I feel strongly that an investor with industry knowledge is best. They can be a huge asset to your company both in direct guidance and also in opening up their contacts and resources to you.

But as far as top-tier or not... that depends on what you want to do with your company. If you're looking to go national and potentially do an IPO etc. then you'd be hard pressed to do that without a top-tier investor. If your goal is just to have your own business... make $1M or so per year and just sell your products as an entrepreneur... you don't need top tier. You just need an investor with whom you see eye-to-eye about your business goals.

The Social Network will win the Best Picture Oscar and I certainly not the only one saying so. Publicity hounds and provocateurs will say it ain't the truth and it's Hollywood and they will get ink - but it is largely the truth, most of the specific events and all of the messages are accurate. In any case it is both great entertainment, fantastic quality writing and directing - and of course a great story. What it may tell us about Facebook that is useful is another thing and not the purpose of the movie. Zuck is NOT the villain of this movie and Saverin is not the victim. Life and reality are much more complex than that, as is evident in the movie, too.

Colleges aren't turning out the types of workers needed by many employers, so something will have to give at some point. On a related note, I wish people would stop acting like you're worthless if you don't have a degree. Some students should be encouraged to attend a vo-tech - they'll save money, take classes that interest them more, and can end up in jobs like welding or plumbing that make a lot of money. But as a society we look down on this now, which is frustrating for those students pushed to attend college when they shouldn't and for the employers who need these types of workers.

I do think categories are a great way to organize. My problem is I have 150+ posts that i migrated over from blogger to wordpress and I have to sit down and convert categories to tags and now weed out ambiguous categories.

If I just used wordpress from the beginning like everyone told me, I would be fine right now.

But I am using generalized categories with my spin like "My So Called Career" for all career related stuff and "I Like to Party" for everything related to the social aspects of life. Is it okay to take this route? If you haven't read my blog, much of what I talk about is based on my experiences and how they impact my money and career, so it all relates. Also, I am really crazy.

Money can only make up for so much! Love your story. Where are you hoping to go?

Peter- Of course you know the answer. There's no guarantee it's sustainable. Great rewards require risk. The risk mitigation is to develop a personal network that can serve as safety net should everything in the new business dry up. You should never feel unemployable! Second, do as much as you can before leaving to grease the skids. I left you a PM on that. And yeah, read Tim. Will Marlow In your opinion, is it easier to build a blog with a large subscriber base today, because the blogging tools/software are more accessible than they were years ago? Or is it more difficult to build a blog today, because the blogging marketplace is more crowded, and because many people choose to read your blog without "subscribing" in any traditional sense of the word, since they rely on platforms like Twitter, Brazen, Google Buzz, Facebook and LinkedIn to let them know when you add a new post?

It's difficult to find a topic (and a voice) that appeals to a wide variety of people. That's why newspapers are tanking and magazines. Those models don't work anymore. Instead of trying to find a large audience, I would find a dedicated and engaged audience of the influencers you want to reach.
