Ryan Paugh Even though I'm currently living in Madison, WI I'd really love to move back to the East Coast soon to be near more friends and family. I've sold my girlfriend on the idea of coming with me. Her first pick is somewhere in North Carolina. My first pick is somewhere in/around Boston, MA. We have a fine cluster of regional theater with a national reputation. And a fine local music scene.

And a cluster of excellent colleges, Brown University, Rhode Island School Of Design, Johnson & Wales...

North Carolina is nice too, different. Cost of living is less but so are salaries.

Good luck. I lived in WI for two years before returning to RI, don't regret it.

I would agree with Cooper. I think Horror and Thrillers are separate, though sometimes they overlap, like a Venn diagram.

To my mind, the difference is in the goals of the movies. A horror, of any type from gore to psychological, is out to scare the pants off of you. A thriller is out to get your adrenaline racing. Often this is done by putting the main character in a scary situation but it can also be done by cloak and dagger fights or high suspense hide and seek games. Horror can use the same methods (hide and seek with the monster is a classic), but it's goal is not just to get you to hold your breath as you find out what will happen next, it's to get you to scream when it happens.

There's only been a few that really scared me. The origonal "Alien" is one. "In Cold Blood", as something based on a true story is another. The original "Cape Fear" with Robert Mitchum is another good one.

Other than those and a few others, the rest are not even worth watching for me.

Tracy Brisson According to this article, 52% of U.S. students attend schools that prohibit the use of social media. What do you think about this? Do you think is the role of the parents? They, too, are derelict in their responsibilities to provide the next generation of citizens with the cognitive tools to sustain our society.

In my view, education is not about finding the right answers to pre-posed (and presupposed) questions. Sadly, that is what our education systems are set up to do (and even more so with the emphasis on standardized testing as a measure of supposed goodness.) Rather, contemporary education MUST be about learning the skills of, and being unafraid to, ask the right questions. Today, for any questions of significance, these skills are invariably wrapped up in collaborative engagement in complex environments. That, in turn, means learning how to engage constructively and creatively in social media which are, first and foremost, environments in which people can learn to embody the principles of collaborative engagement (even if the specific applications might at first appear to be trivial and trite).

Many of the "old fogey" generation still refer to kids "playing on the computer." What these fogeys fail to realize is that said "playing" actually involves collaborative construction of identity, enactment of collaborative production of knowledge, and mutually sharing and making sense of experiences. These are all the skills that necessary for success throughout life, especially those who aspire to influence policy and process in society. Without question, the school systems that prohibit social media completely misunderstand their responsibility to both their students, and society at large.

Tracy Brisson: Thanks for all your comments! It is definitely something to think about for those of us changing education.
