Diane L CNN reports that while top corporate positions (and any leadership position, really) are associated with extroverts, introverts can be great leaders too. http://bit.ly/ekVa7f Has there ever been a situation at work when you felt you needed to modify your usual persona/response to get a particular result/for any reason?

If I dealing with someone more introverted that is very analytical I will make sure to present the data and have all the details ready. Every employee is different and every approach must be different also. You have to be aware of what makes someone "click". Knowing your people and their circumstances will help you figure out how to deal with them in the most effective way. I experience this in my job every day. All my employees are from all over the country and, in some cases, around the world.

La Donna Lokey .@DanSchawbel is ruffling feathers in his blog post on Forbes, where he pronounces the death of job boards and resumes based on new LinkedIn functionality. http://onforb.es/mFT8Vn I agree that it's time for a game-change, and that this (as well as social job matching) signals a new era for jobseekers and recruiters. But how do you feel about submitting your LinkedIn profile instead of a resume when applying to a job? Is LI becoming the defacto home for all of your professional information?

Everyone should have a LinkedIN profile in my opinion, and people vary in opinion as to how much info to put on it. I think the most important part is a well-written branding summary. You can leave all the job description details out, because typically you would tailor your resume to fit each role anyway, and you don't want to represent yourself ineffectively. But it's worth taking a look at what you have and fine-tuning it, so that if this thing does take off, you're on the edge of it as a job seeker. Plus it's good practice in online personal branding anyway.

@Sena. You're using Linkedin exactly how it should be used. It is a great research and networking tool.

I don't see the death of job boards happening anytime soon. Using LI to submit a resume would be very limiting to a job seeker who is marketing themselves very differently to different industries. One can only truly brand themselves for one job function at a time on LI. A job seeker who is conducting a job search on different job functions would not want to use LI.

Ty Unglebower Last night at around 3:00AM I at last finished the rough draft of my novel! It's a relief and exciting at the same time. I got the general idea about 18 months ago, inspired by several things. And I went through a dry spell of writing nothing in it for two months or so. Now I will put it away fro about three months, and this begin first revisions which I hope to have completed by October.

TOP IDEA: Ty Unglebower Today I am beginning the process of unfollowing, and unsubscribing, and just plain giving up on some of the "must follow!" gurus, blogs, Twitter feeds and websites I sort of fell for in 2010. Actually I didn't totally fall for all of them, but I was acting on the water cooler premise that if I read what everyone else read, I'd have more to talk about and hence more to network about. But it was inauthentic. I'm tired. No more "Godin-like" sites for me without some unique appeal.

This is particularly a problem with Twitter...before you know it you're following way too many people (especially the "gurus") and absorbing absolutely nothing in terms of content that is sincerely relevant to you. TOP IDEA: Ty Unglebower Have you ever heard how excited some people get about "putting this place on the map"? Whether it be a city, a company, a college, or something else. How often are too many sacrifices to the character of the institution for the sake of greater fame? I say too many, too often. I'm not worried about being a part of something on the map. I went to a very small public high school with a music program that has a great reputation with the surrounding communities. Tell that to the administration though. We've had to fund the program independently for years now because the school refuses to fund the music program and other extracurriculars properly and instead puts everything into (big surprise!) the basketball team. I don't know what it is about being "put on the map," but it truly doesn't seem to be the best policy in all cases.

Ty Unglebower I will be gearing down my time on BC. It was great once, but the mission has obviously shifted quite a bit in the community, and people like me have been shoved aside by the brass. It is all quite conventional now, like every other, "I know better than you" career site out there. I will check in on occasion, but for the most part I have been highly disappointed with the direction it has taken since most of the founders left. Not at all "brazen" anymore. Ty Unglebower It is about time someone at least made a minimal effort to put an official (if not instantly effective) end to discrimination against the unemployed in the job search. It is not only disgusting and unfair, but also lazy. I'm in that boat right now. I was laid off after my position was eliminated to save money and the duties were split between two other, more senior, employees.

And if a person is unemployed due to a reason directly related to their actions, a prospective employer should ask themselves if that reason is 1) relevant to their operation and 2)likely to happen again. If it is, THAT may be a valid reason to not hire a person...at which point it's not discrimination based on the actual unemployment.

Edward Antrobus This is, in fact, a rant. So feel free to ignore it. But what am I doing wrong here?
