La Donna Lokey If you asked me 10 years ago, I would have never considered a career in financial services because I had a (mis) perception that the culture would be too conservative or stuffy. I've been very pleased to find that's not the case in many organizations. Jobseekers: What are your initial impressions about working in a financial services company? What are your expectations about the company culture?

I learned about sales, customer service, credit and management. In my time here at the bank I have had 8 different jobs in 11 years without having to change companies. Also, I have been able to learn and grow as a banker, but leverage that experience and apply it to different areas like Human Resources and Marketing. Strong performers have great opportunities at a large bank, as long as you are patient and can execute.

However, my husband transferred jobs to Dallas last year...and I have yet to find a compatible job here in Dallas. I've come to find that especially in banking...it's all about who you know.

Susan Pogorzelski I've been extremely picky about the fiction books I choose as of late, but I just picked up The Story of Edgar Sawtelle based on a great rec from a friend. A boy and his dog? Enough said (I'll be ready with tissues). Any other good fiction reads to get lost in?

Happy Reading!

Fairly recent reads are Devil In The White City (incredible) and a book about Ayn Rand whose title escapes me. Just got Eat, Pray, Love, which I'm excited to read. Great recs! Can't wait to check them out! If I have more, I'll give you a holler, hope you do the same. Happy New Year :)

blake hall I actually read "No Plot? No Problem!" in prep last year... It has some really great, practical advice for how to have a successful month (not that I'd know :P). Hopefully this year I'll be able to hit the mark.

I'm hoping some of that literary genius rubs off on me :P

Joshua I am inspired by great photography and the beauty of nigiri sushi as it plated, ever so wonderfully, like a piece of artwork.

Susan Pogorzelski: I agree! The presentation is beautiful -- you almost don't want to ruin it by eating it. Except for sushi. There's no holding back there ;)

David Stehle My "writing inspiration" often comes when I'm walking my dog or when I lay my head down at night - it's good to keep pen and paper near.

Susan Pogorzelski Do you find yourself staying strictly with one creative form? Or do you experiment with others?
