TOP IDEA: Cameron Plommer I'm starting to realize that I don't need more information on HOW to do something. Instead what I find most useful is information (books, blogs, whatever) that inspires me to do something. Whether it's inspiration to learn a new topic, get in shape or be a better person. The How-to is only applicable at a low level because what works for one person may not work for another. With that said, what have you read or read regularly that inspires you?

The wisdom of that has played out as I've networked with Gen Y folks a few years younger than me (I'm in my early 30s), and constantly been inspired by their energy and enthusiasm to tackle exciting projects.

In the past I've either quickly put stuff down in html format with Vim, or used KBlogger. I tried Flock, but was less than impressed, and ScribeFire looked promising but its early builds never performed well for me. I hear it has improved immensely, but I lack the need for it.

There's something about the tactile feedback from a book that settles me right down as well, to the point of not hearing anything else around me.

Someone was just remarking today about how one day the air conditioners shut off in the building, and suddenly everyone realized just how quiet it really was. We have so much white noise around us that we don't even notice anymore.

Brett Kunsch Just watched this TED vid posted today: Nigel Marsh on "How to make work-life balance work" http://bit.ly/i1ruAc --> He raises the point that achieving balance does not have to be a dramatic upheaval in one's life - it's making those small changes that can make the biggest impact. I often hear from others that balance is elusive, but as Mr. Marsh argues, we have to take a *balanced* approach to finding balance. What if we changed our balance strategy? Could it help society find more peace?

JenG I have a guest post up at Copyblogger today discussing the five aspects of social intelligence and how to use it to better engage your readers/customers. As a writer/blogger, this is esp. tricky since you don't have the nonverbal cues to tell you how you're doing. And ironically, a bit of alone time is the best way to improve. Check it out: Is Your Low Social IQ Dooming Your Blog? http://bit.ly/fW4FhE

It took me a year of testing at Stanford Medical Center's department of Psychiatry. It looks to me like she diagnosed herself, and has repeatedly said that diagnosing Asperger Syndrome is easy, which is baloney.

So don't tell me Penelope has Asperger Syndrome, since she's self diagnosed, and has no medical opinion or credibile source of her diagnosis.

Ty Unglebower What do you think is the best way for writers to network in casual settings? That is to say at a party or other non-networking social event, (where most networking happens.) When you tell most people you are a writer, they say, "oh!" and nod, and that is the end of it. They probably think I am up in an attic surrounded by papers and liquor. (I'm not.) So how can a writer discuss what he does, and what he wants to do in the future, with "lay people" in an interesting way?

It's easy to say 'I'm just a writer,' and that tells your networking prospect that what you do is fairly boring. If you can convey your enthusiasm — 'I'm lucky enough to be a writer!' — it's easier to start a conversation about it. I also really like asking what other people do and talking about writing projects that I've worked on that are related to their industry.

I actually have more interest at events when I tell people I am just a writer! What seems to work is if I can tell them what I am working on or what I have worked on. I get bonus points (i.e. a longer conversation) when I can tie in what I am writing/have written to the nature of the event or the personality of the person I am speaking with.

Ryan Paugh Do you swear on your blog? Just read an article on NPR (http://n.pr/8Xtpst) about the emotional impact that profanity can have when used by authorities. Ty Unglebower All right, so what is the etiquette on this? (Or Etitweet..whatever cute name you people would use.) Do you go looking for local people on Twitter, or those with similar interests and just follow them for that reason? Hoping to get to know them? Or do you need more of a background to you reasoning before you start following someone? I'm tempted to look up people from my hometown with similar interests and follow them, but is that enough?
