When you pull the "more good" lever, you never know what kind of bad will come out the other end. Even more frightening is that we have a difficult time figuring out which bad outcomes are caused by which levers. So, policymakers become less accountable for the negative effects of their tinkering. The end result is politicians who never see a tax incentive they don't like. Add it all up and you get the American tax code. These incentives have everything to do with the original discussion.

Show me the numbers. If the new system saves enough to justify the cost over a reasonable period, then it may be worth doing. Otherwise it's not worth all the time it takes up. 112 weeks ago
Delta Waters
Hi everyone! Delta here...I am a nurse who is wanting to do something new to eventually get out of nursing. I am starting a resume writing biz. Google ads just called and i will now own "colorado resume writing" tag & and be on the front page guaranteed. this is the kick in the ass to get my website online soon. But the fear factor is rising. What if i'm not good enough, etc. how did you "feel the fear & do it anyway?" Tips to move through the fear of failure appreciated.

Love this post by Mark Cuban http://bit.ly/beKsEb. The simplest way to create more jobs is to allow entrepreneurs to spend less on lawyers and accountants.
Ill take it a step further and say the government should provide incentives for entrepreneurs that go beyond this. What if anyone who creates a successful business receives a break on student loans or even full forgiveness? Of course you define what "success" is, but imagine the innovation that could take place with a small incentive!

My trepidation comes from not understanding all the nuances to the tax code and being afraid to screw it up. Thus, the requirement of needing professional services.
@Thomas - Skepticism is healthy. I really would love to hear from someone who founded a startup and know what sort of pressure professional services cost them.

I was advised by an accountant and an attorney to be aggressive with regard to deductions and interpretations. I'm told that if you have a good reason for them and IRS objects, you only owe the additional tax and interest on the additional tax. I'm seldom challenged on using this practice. Sometimes an accountant will be more conservative than necessary, especially when they are dealing with new regulations. 120 weeks ago

Exciting stuff here, I hope. I'm taking a dying family business and trying to revive it back into a profitable company (well, at least MORE profitable).

I do agree with her that the promotional products industry is known to be tacky and cheap, which is why I'm not interested in just processing orders for cheap products nobody will ever use, but rather helping clients find a promotional program that will actually be effective for THEM. After reading the comments from her former employees & vendors it seems like she wasn't so genuine when talking about her business model though. 127 weeks ago

By what metrics do you measure success of a social media campaign when your goal is engagement and loyalty, and not necessarily sales?

I usually have some measurable actions on a site apart from sales. It might be RSS, e-mail signup, a polling or trivia question, a comments section, or like/dislike feature. It might be a pain in the butt to set up conversion tracking on all such things...it's up to you. 131 weeks ago

Does anyone have suggestions on how to estimate eyeballs? I'm wondering if there's a more accurate way than reporting on traffic/mo.

Thanks for the Quantcast recs! I'll look into it. 143 weeks ago

Ask for a link if a writer doesn't include it-so you can track. The # of folks that actually visit is a more meaningful # than eyeballs. 143 weeks ago

Thing about venues for our end-of-the-summer party. Anyone got any cool ideas for a venue for 200+ people?
