I have a passion for communities. I've been involved in online communities since back when newsgroups where the hot thing, or at least were the hot thing for a self-styled teenage goth (alt.gothic anyone?) Growing up, I curated webrings on Geocities and Angelfire, and also administrated and moderated many communities and groups on Livejournal, phpBB and a myriad of other now-defunct community sites - real street cred, I know.
I got into crowdsourcing at the ground floor, contracting with Cambrian House. I'm now a team member of Chaordix, where I advise on engaging communities for large companies including IBM, Chicago Sun Times and European teleco Orange.
I'm always looking to connect with moderators around the world and help grow Chaordix's community moderator network. If you have a passion for online communities, experience in engaging with people online, have an online persona that is trusted, fair, helpful and humorous when appropriate and are interested in working on projects for major clients, I'd love to connect!
Responsible for: hosting, moderating and recruiting for multiple online communities, managing and providing guidance to a network of distributed moderators, develop Chaordix community engagement methodology, provide guidance and insight for major clients regarding their online communities and analyzing and distilling information output of communities for reporting.
Providing consulting services as a social media and community specialist, an online media generalist and a project coordinator. Provided services to companies such as Cambrian House, Damashek Consulting, Alcatel-Lucent and not-for-profit organizations such as the Red Deer Roller Derby Association.
I created Beautifully Chaotic Designs, an online hair extension company, after a bad, overpriced haircut. I ran the company during my secondary and post-secondary schooling years, providing me with income to not only see movies and buy nice things as a teenager, but also to pay for food and rent during university.
And it sure beat standing in front of a deep fryer or flipping patties.
