Interactive content includes stuff like polls, short answers, contest entries - basically anything that has to do with asking interesting questions and voting. You will also get more people participating when you make it really easy to respond and interact. The more often people participate, the more likely they are to stay engaged.

What I do know is that when I sent in my book proposal, it was one of the questions the publisher came back and asked me. My agent told me that publishers generally don't like to issue new contracts unless they feel confident they can sell at least 10,000 copies. Of course, all of those sales wont come from readers of your blog - but it helps.
