Steven Churchill Penelope, How can we who've remained employed through the last few years but have shouldered the workloads of 2-3 people use an economic upswing to our advantage with our current employers?

So I am pretty good at being a corporate citizen. And, if you are going to be at a big company, why not be a good corporate citizen? I mean, why not just be a good team player wherever you are? If you think you're "working for the man" then you are inherently unhappy with your corporate job. But you don't need to be. Or you need to leave. Right?

I'm often hypersensitive to feedback like that. I guess what you're trying to say is if I'm going to be a corporate employee, then be a committed one. NO fence sitters. I'm either all the way in, or all the way out. I guess I was looking for some "rage against the machine" validation from you. Shouldn't have made it personal.

Steven Churchill Is it worth developing some irrelevant (but very interesting) content to pull people to your blog? Hoping some will stay/subscribe to the more serious content? I see some A-list bloggers that throw things in that seem so random. Not sure if this is deliberate (and crafty) or just thoughtless.

The A list gets to the A list by staying on their topic but always having an interesting take on their topic. So they think of each post as needing spice. That's what makes them A list. It's totally small-time to put something off-topic up just because it will get traffic. Because it won't. You get traffic by sticking to a topic that people come there for.

Even if one or two off-topic articles generate you an upswing in traffic it will be fleeting.

Stanley Lee If someone who doesn't have any positive or negative online presence (i.e. no Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, Brazen Careerist, whatever you name it, etc.), does this work either neutral or negatively (b/c of the lack of online presence describing the person) in the person's favor, with respect to employability in this new age?

Especially for certain professions like design, communications, marketing, PR, etc. Of course this is all with the assumption that your online presence is favorable.
