About Me

Shark Enthusiast to Scientist

Discovery Channel’s week long special on sharks first captured my interest when I was in fourth grade. I spent hours that week sitting on the couch watching and learning the ways of one of the ocean’s most fantastic animals. Every year since, I have devoted a week of my life to “Shark Week,” and will probably for the rest of my life. It was most likely the shark shows that first began my interest in marine biology. Before that, I just knew that I wanted to make a career with animals.

But my marine biology future dream crashed on a fishing trip with my father, when I discovered that I’m not too fond of touching fish. I reevaluated myself and took a good look into what I enjoyed doing. All I knew is that I love nature, I love animals and I wanted to help them. It wasn’t until this year at college that I figured out a good way to tie together nature and animals; I should become an ecologist.

I plan to get a degree in Ecology and Evolution with a minor in Photography within the next two and a half years. Then follow up with a graduate degree in a narrowed field, perhaps mammalogy. Then hopefully, if I’m still up to it, get a doctorate degree.

I plan to incorporate my photography skills into my biology studies by using it to document my field experiments, as well as, using it to make some extra money on the side. My photography professor says I show great promise for my future. With photography as a tool, I hope to become a great a scientist that will discover many things for this world and hopefully make my school proud.
