I've worked as a wildland firefighter, a sailing instructor, and a tax preparer. I've sold everything from books to sleigh rides to wedding gowns. I'm tenacious and flexible. I solve problems and I've been told I'm an unbelievable "task master."
I spent two summers working and sailing with Outward Bound in Rockland, Maine. As a logistics coordinator, I was responsible for making sure students got where they needed to be when they needed to be there and that the instructors had all the necessary resources to execute a successful course.
As an assistant instructor, I was responsible for facilitating a safe, open environment for learning and pushing a student's comfort zone. Adults are not so comfortable with stepping outside their comfort zone.
NCCC is a team-based, residential program for 18 to 24 year olds. As a Corps Member, I worked in Chicago doing taxes for low-income families and individuals then spent the fire season of 2006 as a Type II Wildland Firefighter. In 2007 I stayed on with NCCC as a Team Leader. My team worked in Baton Rouge, LA with Habitat for Humanity Greater Baton Rouge affiliate and then back to Colorado for another fire season. I was the Team Leader of the Year for my unit at NCCC and was voted AmeriCorps Firefighter of the Year by my team members.
