About Me

Stanley Tollman's entry into the travel, hotel and tourism business began while working as a young man in the kitchen of The Palace, a Johannesburg hotel owned and operated by his parents. He not only learned the ins and outs of running a successful restaurant, but he also gained an insider’s perspective of the hospitality trade. He married a woman who had developed skills in high-class meal preparation and the two of them created a global reputation for establishing top quality restaurants, supper clubs and hotels in South Africa.

Successful Transition to the UK

After many years of hard work that went into establishing and operating the Johannesburg businesses, Stanley Tollman's South African holdings suffered during a harsh economic crisis. At that point, he and his family left their home country behind to begin a new life in the UK. Stanley Tollman went on to work at Trafalgar Tours, a UK travel company partially owned by his family. It wasn't long before business was booming again as he continued to expand Trafalgar Tours and open new companies.
One of those companies, The Travel Corporation, is a world-renowned organization of travel operators founded by Stanley Tollman. Today the corporation represents about 25 of the most well known travel brands in the world. TTC travel operators coordinate boutique river cruises, family travel packages, business trips and vacations to popular locations. Included in the list of represented companies are: Red Carnation Hotel Collection, New Horizon Holidays, Insight Vacations, Brendan Vacations and Contiki Holidays.

South African Birthday Celebration

In 2010 Stanley Tollman celebrated his 80th birthday by honoring the country of his birth. The Travel Corporation joined with South African government officials to coordinate a gathering of worldwide travel representatives who arrived in the country to see the sites, meet the people, tour the land and commemorate TTC's founder on his birthday. The delegates were treated to day tours where they talked with local residents and saw firsthand the hidden beauties of South Africa. They also volunteered to build small wendy-houses later donated to some of the local underprivileged families.

Choosing philanthropic donations to South African organizations as a fitting way to mark his 80th birthday, Stanley Tollman gave generous gifts to five South African charities. Three of those were: the Desmond Tutu Peace Centre; the Amy Biehl Foundation; and the Make A Difference Foundation, an organization chaired by previous Springbok rugby team captain, Francois Pienaar.

Hobbies and Interests

Art, wildlife preservation, fine cuisine and vintage wines all represent Stanley Tollman’s passions and interests. Bea Tollman describes their devotion to cooking and fine dining in her book, A Life in Food. Other interests revolve around preserving art in South Africa including the preservation of San Bushman rock paintings which are believed to be 10,000 years old, as well as providing resources to help support all types of African art through the Tollman Family Art Award. Stanley Tollman is also extremely concerned about preserving South African wildlife and replenishing plants that are indigenous to the land. This interest extends to animals nearing extinction such as the cape leopard, the cape zebra and various species of fish.
