After a mini career as a litigation paralegal, I took some classes adn eventually started my own upholstery design studio. M.M. Leer Upholstery Studio served customers and interior designers in the Indianapolis and surrounding areas for fifteen years. Eventually, I started designing my own pieces for various local retail shops as well as an online children's furnishings company.
One thing led to another, and eventually evolved into my current business. I write a weekly DIY column, DIY Journal, for The Indianapolis Star and am a paid writer for www.Curbly.com where I am ModHomeEcTeacher. I periodically write tutorials for www.apartmenttherapy.com-Chicago. My DIY Upholstery classes are booming. I teach those in my Carmel, IN studio and am a part-time faculty member at The Indianapolis Art Center.
Being an upholsterer and an addict for discarded junk, I am able to pick up fabulous pieces of existing furniture for next to nothing and transform them into restyled, repurposed, reupholstered works of art. Lately I've been teaching others how to restyle their own pieces into eco-hip pieces they're proud to show off in their home.
