How long does it take to build a substantial network? I'm looking at less than a year before graduation and am realizing that I could use some major improvements in the networking and personal branding side of things. What strategies have been most helpful to growing your network or building your personal brand in a short period of time?

For ex. I'm in publishing - so I contacted the folks who run the publishing business conference and expo (attendees are normally head execs at publishing companies) and asked if they needed volunteers to work the fair. I sat in on some great sessions and learned about what pub execs were learning about. I talked to speakers & introduced myself.
I also volunteered for a bookfair and worked that & met authors. Professional environments like these are great. 123 weeks ago
