Sharalyn Hartwell A guy friend working on a marketing project for his Master's has been asking me a lot of questions about marketing to women. He asked the pinnacle question yesterday, "Why is it great to be a woman?" I had a hard time putting it into words. Scientists recently discovered women deal with stress better because of the relationships they create http://tinyurl.com/g5ml. But is there more to it than that? Why is it great to be a woman? I'd love your take. Guys too. What do you think?

From my reading, it seems to be consistent that women want to be respected as leading consumers, which is sadly not as obvious as it should be.

Ellen Nordahl When you're looking to switch careers and make a move to a new city, what not-so-obvious factors do you consider during the search? I think an important (and often overlooked) factor is the economic health of the region you're looking to move to. Money Magazine recently came out with a list of the nation's "Recession Proof" cities http://bit.ly/cLTk3s. If the general economy of a region was taking a turn for the worse, would it put you off from making a move?

There are jobs, but my career line is Education and I have NEVER felt there would ever be a problem getting employed as a teacher. I did consider this, but continue to believe I'll over come the obvious...I have a teaching interview tomorrow, but I have been looking for nearly 5 months! Before Atlanta I was more concerned about zip codes and crime rates...so every time I move I look on the police site and see which zip codes I will not live in, but would be willing to work in.

*So, in answer to your question I'd consider it, but if I really wanted to move, I'd still move and send out good vibes to the Universe! :-)

Patrick Pho What do you do when employment is not a problem for you but your friend? I know a couple of friends looking for a job and I was wondering what's the right way to help them out without getting too involved with their search? I don't think you should become their job agent but when you want to help what's a way to show that you care?

Tyler Durbin I'm organizing content for a Webinar for college seniors who are currently interning at various companies on the topic of "Using Social Media for Personal Branding and Professional Networking." Could you some tips, thoughts, insights, experiences from everyone in the group! You are the people that are out there being proactive in personal branding and networking and would love to pass along your thoughts to this group of college seniors.

David Spinks Networking is a blast. You can make new connections with great people every day. Many of those connections become close friends over time... some of them don't. You reach the point where you wish you could commit more time to keeping in touch with the people you've already connect with. At the same time, you don't want to stop expanding and growing your network. How do you balance it? Share your thoughts here, and join us for a full discussion on twitter on Thursday at 8pm est.

I think there's a natural rise and flow of people you should keep in touch with, and as people grow and change, it's okay to not be in close touch with everyone. Weak ties are often more important to success (there is research on this somewhere), so I just try to keep my friends that have been friends with me for a long time close. And family too. The rest will fall into place as it does.

Scott Hale Are you unemployed? Are you employed part-time? Are you employed but realize there's actually 24 hours in every day of the week? Then you need #u30pro this week! (end of infomercial) This week's topic: What can young pros do to keep themselves busy while not working? 5/6 - 8pm est. Be there.

Ellen Nordahl I'd be interested in what the u30pro community has to say about inter-office dating: have you/would you ever date a co-worker? David Spinks We all get overwhelmed at work sometimes. You start to question your abilities. Are you qualified? Are you in over your head? It can seem like there's no way out. The good news is it happens to all of us. It happened to me recently. But luckily it passes, and you learn from it. That's the topic for this week's u30pro twitter chat. Thanks for all the responses guys! It's really interesting to hear what works for everyone.

Maureen, that's exactly what worked for me. I sat down with a mentor, and broke everything down piece by piece.

Rebecca, I have a private freakout moment too...only since I work from home, I can still throw/hit things ^_^

Ryan and Grace, yep, a walk really helps. I also like to draw so sitting and getting my emotion out on paper helps.

Tania, I had to have a nice long talk with my boss about expectations and requirements. It helps a lot.

Scott Hale I'm pretty excited for this week's #u30pro topic. It's loaded and I can't wait to see what you all have to say about "Keeping Your Ego In Check." Does GenY have an issue with ego in the workplace? How blurry is the line between cocky and confident?

My take on it: Many people are trying to live up to the hype of GenY. Young workers should keep their attitudes in check while navigating through their career. You can show confidence and create authority without being too cocky. Nobody wants to work with a jerk.

I'll chime in with my experience and far-from-expert advice: First of all, I'd recommend being active on sites like Brazen and LinkedIn, keeping a professional reputation and spending a small amount of time building relationships and networking. Second, I would cherish the time you have left, drink beers, do things that young non-college-students cannot get away with, and focus on finding something that you would actually enjoy doing for a living. Much like Ryan, I focused more on beers than anything else but small things like building a reputation, blogging, or professional networking do not take much time and can certainly help in the long run.

Looking forward to hearing other thoughts.

Scott Hale Slight change of plans - This week (3/25) we'll be discussing "Negotiating a Job Offer". We're going to hold onto "Corporate vs Startup" to accommodate some schedules we're coordinating :) Doing our best to make that a really helpful discussion. In the meantime, we've also got some exciting things happening behind the scenes - so keep an eye out for that.

Scott Hale Yeah... We had some technical difficulties with Twitter last week, so we're going to discuss "Startup vs Corporate" again this week (3/25) - It's a big topic & we don't want to skim over it just b/c Twitter can't handle the #u30pro awesomeness. We're working on lining up some special guests w/ a ton of experience in this area so we can make sure to have some solid pro/con discussion. Make sure to invite anybody you know that could help out as well.

Corporate wins hands down. Show the rest of your team that you're a rock star at something they all suck at.

I'm really good at putting together PowerPoint presentations. So when my first entry-level work experience seemed to be going nowhere I started to ask around about people who needed help w/ their presentations. I ended up getting requests from people who weren't even members of my own team.

Doing that is what kept me at the company until I got everything squared away with Brazen Careerist and left on my own terms.
