Harriet May Do you have the recommended 8 month emergency fund? Now that I've been on a salaried income for seven months, it's my first big savings goal. Do you treat your savings like an extra bill or do you struggle to put away money every month?

LadyBlueShame: I think that in order for me to save the amount I deem necessary, I will have to treat it like a bill :-/, which sucks because I hate bills.

After a while, you won't even miss it.My emergency fund is roughly 1 years salary. Doesn't need to be that high when starting out, but as we get raises, and homes, the risk of being laid off creates much more of a problem

Kenji Crosland Hey folks. The startup down the hall from our office, estately.com, is looking for an all around admin-type person to pick up all the extra work that startups have to contend with. It's not a glorious job, but it's a great way to break into the Seattle startup community. I've met the CEO and he seems like a great guy to work for. What's more, we get to be neighbors! If you're interested either message me or leave a comment. I'll put in a good word for you.

Andrew Leer When was the last time you got a job with a resume? I'm trying to figure out if all this stuff about networking being the only way to find a job is hype or not.

Jessica Bahr: Your network allows you to find more potential jobs, but if your resume doesn't get across how valuable you will be then you are screwed.

Sarah Matz Do most people who work remotely get hired initially on location and then move away? It has never quite made sense in my mind. No one in my area of work/direct circle of friends does this.

Sarah Matz I'm currently reading Out of Africa (memoir by Isak Dinesen) and let me tell you it's amazing - particularly if you're at all familiar with East Africa or want to be. Yes, the movie had a hand in making me want to read it, but no, the book is so very different from the movie - I know you were wondering. Anyone else out there read it? Thoughts?

Sarah Matz One thing I would have liked to know sooner was the difference between 'good' and 'bad' debt. I had a goal to get my student loans all paid off as well as CC debt but really CC debt comes in a lot more needfully to pay down. Student loans get partially recredited to you when paying taxes!

You are investing in yourself - always a good idea. While cc debt is just bad debt.

I have looked into teaching English overseas as a career... I jut returned to the states from Greece, where many of my friends did just that. Another friend is teaching English at a university in Tokyo and told me that there are good Master's programs that incorporate a more "academic" version of the TOEFL so people can keep traveling and teaching. I will be looking into that as well! Thanks again for the article!

Cameron Plommer I know this wouldn't work with fiction, but do you read only certain parts of nonfiction book. For examples maybe you only read the chapters that are most interesting to you, or you skip other things to save time. What's your take on this strategy to save time? Is the benefit you gain of saving time worth missing something important?

With this goal in mind, I'll skim thematically, using the index and/or table of contents first to focus on the most relevant sections. I usually always read the introduction or the "why this is a book and I wrote it" section prior to anything else.

JR Moreau How much mental energy do you use to track your credit score and finances? I really wish I could find a good model, set it and forget it... or hire an accountant :-D I found an awesome new website to monitor your credit. They don't try to charge you for every little feature too. It's called Credit Karma. Check it out! http://www.creditkarma.com/

Sarah Matz Hi network! I'm doing a piece on online networking and thought this may be a good place to look for info. I've of course been searching around BrazenCareerist and LinkedIn for info, but would any of you have more tips, blogs, or articles to recommend for someone looking to explain how it works for career changers (or merely unemployed workers) who don't know much about online connections? Thanks in advance!

Akhila Kolisetty Hi everyone! I'm a senior and will be graduating in June. How do you recommend getting your foot through the door for non-profit jobs? There don't seem to be too many entry level jobs in the sector! I've been scouring idealist.org and it's a great resource, but are there any better ways to find out about potential entry-level jobs where I could start working in June? ANY tips for an entry-level job search appreciated! Thanks!

I often see things on indeed.com and simplyhired.com (it's my job to search for jobs, basically) and if the nonprofit has a website they'll definitely post there first if they indeed post like Blake said.
