As a student at the University of North Carolina (Go Heels!), I took courses in a number of different areas of study, and declared 6 different majors, before settling on Public Policy and Entrepreneurship, a course of study that allowed me to pursue my interests in current affairs, economics, sociology and business.
I conducted market research, researched and proposed new partners for Come Recommended, brainstormed and researched for new e-books and secured speaking engagements.
I provided Festival support to the Wales program curator and Welsh festival participants. This included administrative tasks, such as conducting research for Festival programs and signs, collecting travel receipts and intern background information as well as helping set up festival exhibits, from hanging signs to building a stone wall, and comparing prices for demonstration supplies. During the actual festival, I filled in for Welsh presenters while they took breaks and directed festival visitors around the National Mall and Washington, DC.
I assisted permanent research staff by creating tables and charts for Institution-wide reports, transcribing interviews and reviewing potential sources of information. I also wrote a comprehensive report on the Institution's use of volunteers and docent staff.
As a project coordinator, I performed a number of administrative tasks, from answering phone and e-mail messages to monitoring the stock of supplies. I assisted with the University's Parent Council by entering grant information into spreadsheets, organizing information for the Parents Council Pictorial Directory and preparing presentation materials for annual meetings. I served as Project Manager for the Carolina Family Magazine and Carolina Parent's Handbook, wrote articles, developed content, and edited the work of other student writers. I worked with University Publishing Services to design a layout.
I received a scholarship to study entrepreneurship in Beijing, China. As the Human Capital Intern in an English-speaking company in a Chinese-speaking country, I proofread and rewrote office documents to help new employees understand office processes. I helped create visuals for training sessions and conducted English competency interviews with new job applicants. I helped redesign the employee e-mail newsletter, a project which required me to work with Softtek's headquarters in Mexico and conduct research on business and etiquette practices for all employees.
I provided assistance to new students and their parents by walking them through required university processes: from registering for class to choosing a meal plan and an introduction to the University Honor code. For 8 months, I lived and breathed all things Carolina, and became an expert on University organizations, offices and processes so that I could help ease the transition to college for everyone involved.
I worked as a government contractor working as an assistant to the program management office at the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services. I create reports, compile quarterly data and process monthly invoices.
The office that I worked for as a contractor hired me as a federal employee to continue to do the same job I did for them-organize meetings, create presentations, prepare weekly and monthly reports and review monthly invoices.
