So I'm thinking of moving my wordpress blog to self hosted. As a person with little html and css knowledge is this a good idea/how easy is this to do?
I want to make more design changes and add plugins, which is the main reason for the change. Can all the necessary information be learned online easy?
Also would a premium theme (Thesis) make this easier for a non-techie?

To answer your questions:
1) Only pay for a theme if you have already blogged for a few months and see the potential value. I use Ahatualpa at http://windmillnetworking.com
2) Many webhost providers automatically install WordPress. I use BlueHost. There are a number of others out there as well that you could use.
3 - I use the theme that I do because the options to make changes are there in the "Theme Options" menu without knowing CSS.
4) Correct!

To @Neal's point, many of the themes available in the "Extend" section of WordPress.org include customization panes, but learning a little HTML and CSS can't hurt either. As always, this group is a great place to post questions. 123 weeks ago

Saj,
This book is great, and an easy read:
Inbound Marketing: Get Found Using Google, Social Media, and Blogs (The New Rules of Social Media). Here's a link to it on Amazon: http://bit.ly/5l3ipd
Sajid Akhtar:
ah yes, I came across this book earlier, I will definitely check it out, it does seem good in content so i'm glad you recommended it. Thanks Kelly 123 weeks ago

I read SEO for Dummies by Peter Kent. I also really found Search Engine Optimization by Kristopher B. Jones to be useful. Jones talks a lot about how to make sure your website is optimized. Kent does to, but I think is more useful on his link strategies.
Sajid Akhtar:
Thanks Rachel, I will look in to these books 123 weeks ago

Hi all, not sure if this is appropriate for this network, but I was hoping someone could let me know of a good place to learn about SEO, particularly natural/organic approach. Some books or blogs that anyone could recommend would be great.
thanks,
Saj

Hi all, I'm a total newbie to social media marketing and would love to know where or how i could learn more about it as it seems pretty fundamental in many business, especially entrepreneurship, given how the social media revolution is going from strength to strength. Any books or blogs you guys n' gals can recommend would be great.
Sajid Akhtar:
Hi Neal, you're man in the know, do have any suggestion on learning about organic/natural SEO?

Snippet from the comment - I am curious about the Going Through Old Journals tip. I haven't tried it and as far as I know none of 10,000 other blogging advises have said so. I would like to read an independent entry just on this topic :) Or is there already is? 123 weeks ago

Hey guys, I'm brand new to Brazen, glad to be here. :)
Been looking for some critical feedback for an "unorthodox" job/branding project I'm in the middle of:
http://www.heyhubspot.com/
Three days ago, I started the blog to get the attention of an online marketing startup that I'm looking to work for. The plan worked! I spoke with the founders, and now I have two weeks to "show them what I got."
Would love some hard, honest feedback. Has anyone done anything similar?

If you could do surveys somehow and post some cool stats about X% of such population believes this. This could have such implications for mktrs to this particular pop. this way. Once again, kinda number focused, but I think that's okay. There are very few original ideas anymore without original research. It'll just sound like you're writing about something someone else wrote about. 124 weeks ago

Spend more time tweeting. Follow more people, RT, ask questions, be a part of that community. I got a couple interviews and some freelance work just from my Twitter community (which led to the blog of course). I'd also consider Facebook advertisements. That way you can target people at Hubspot specifically. Here's an example: http://marianlibrarian.com/2009/08/13/the-ad/
Good luck! I have no doubt you're going to rock this shit. 123 weeks ago
Indoor climbing - love bouldering,Ice skating, Squash, Badminton and running when the weather (and motivation) permits.
Gym - a quick 'circuit of death' rouine(pullups, deadlift, dips and squats, all in quick succession).
I listen to a lot of music...mainly confined to indie, rock, folk.
I love to keep up to date on tech - including consumer tech and more recently social media - since the two are now intertwined
I'm big on Mac and the potential for cloud computing with google's chrome OS.
I'm interested in finance, economics - would love to be involved in private equity & VC/entrepreneurial activities and not so much in the evil and immoral capital markets.....I guess I've always had a thing for real estate on some level and love being in a metropolis with a mix of modern and traditional buildings...particularly central london
Goals
Learn to play the guitar and then piano
Travel as much of the world I can
Learn basics of a language and an activitiy in each country I travel to
Build a vast network of friends
Most of all make even a small difference somehow
