Yaseen Rocca Sharing an idea: It would be very useful if the website checks whether there are existing networks with similar names whenever someone tries to create a network. If similar networks are found (using all keywords possible from names & descriptions), then the website shows the networks and gives the user 2 options: 1. Confirm that the network they intend to create has a different purpose or theme, or 2. Join the existing network(s) instead of creating a new one.

Roxy Allen: I second this. The only way to do this now is to give it a google (aka search) before starting your network, would be helpful.

Ryan Healy: Great idea, Adam. Thanks for bringing it to our attention, I'll have to add it to the ever-expanding list :)

Roxy Allen I'm a triple grande skinny vanilla latte at Bucks (my slang for Starbucks). At work we have an eco-unfriendly K-Cup machine that I guiltily drink from - My fav is the PBS Blend from Green Mountain with 2 creams :) I think I would DIE without coffee.

Holly Hoffman First-timer? Here's a tip: Bring a power strip with you. You'll be a hero and you'll actually get to plug in somewhere.

111 weeks ago from SXSW

Roxy Allen: Cool tip - does this scale - would I become more popular the more power strips I plug together?
Holly Hoffman: Ha! I'm not sure about that, but you could definitely make some extra spending cash selling them at a mark-up. ;)

Ryan Healy I've still never been to SXSW, but I'm determined to make it this year! I have to be at an ERE conference on March 15, but I'm planning to go for the first few days. Love the idea of planning a Brazen SXSW party! Any ideas?

111 weeks ago from SXSW

Roxy Allen: This will be my first time too, Ryan. I'm imagining taking over a bar one night - we could announce after Elysa's session.

It's the last place open in downtown, and they offer 'co-sponsored' parties where a bunch of companies can chip in to host for the night. Let me know if you want an introduction.

Hi Roxy,
Try to encourage attendees to subscribe to the groups Twitter feed and tweet about events as they are happening even impromptu things that will encourage people to act...like "come to the 3rd floor lobby to talk about _____" and while you're there, make sure you can capture info re: volunteers...if they took the initiative to show up-they'll work for you!

Roxy Allen As an administrative assistant, how can I make my small (10 staff) nonprofit's restructuring process work for my own career development?

128 weeks ago from Ask Penelope Trunk!

Todd Owens: Quandry #2 - very clear and measurable expectations, open communication, frequent check ins, and ask for a lot of constructive feedback.
Penelope Trunk: The goal with any job is get your boss to love working with you so you can ask for help meeting your own goals. This is your goal now, too.

Roxy Allen Welcome, everyone! Question for all: what are the biggest challenges your associations are facing right now, and how are you handling them

128 weeks ago from Association Professionals

Jesse Trucks: We're dealing with membership. We are working on multiple ways to combat attrition and increase new membership (member drives/more benefits)
Carrie Clark: As usual, our biggest challenge is getting our members engaged in the Public Policy department.

Cassie Holman when submitting a resume, is it expected that you convert it to a pdf?

128 weeks ago from Ask Penelope Trunk!

Cassie Holman: by the way everyone, thanks for so many responses to my resume question!

Roxy Allen Also did anyone go to the AWAE conference in Toronto?

128 weeks ago from Association Professionals

Roxy Allen: No but our ED and a senior advisor went. I don't think they LOVED it - they said they ran out of lunch one or two times!

Elizabeth Kohlenberg I'm a financial analyst for an automotive manufacturer and would like to transition to nonprofit. Any advice?

128 weeks ago from Nonprofiteers

Eileen Terrien: I'd suggest looking for npo boards to sit on. They need financial advice and know how and are a good way to get your name out there.

Sarah Hartley: How about offering your services and gaining experience as a volunteer?

Penelope Trunk A question for you guys: Whenever I've had a boss I worked really well with, I ended up having a crush on him. Do you think this is typical?

132 weeks ago from Ask Penelope Trunk!

Vanessa Alvarado: I don't think it's typical. This could be my age (22) Bosses tend to be much older. And I've personally never felt an attraction to one.
: Maybe it is related to the assumption that we are attracted to those who embody characteristics we want in ourselves...
