Rowena Briones There is an initiative going on this month on mutual blogging: http://bit.ly/arFu4A. I would love to get to know fellow bloggers out there who would like to collaborate on guest posts in the upcoming weeks. I'm a newbie blogger and have been enjoying myself so far, but I'm definitely looking for more opportunities to network and write. Anyone who is interested just let me know - I'm open to brainstorming on some potential topics!

Rowena Briones I have a question similar to Jeannie's...well, sort of. For some time I have been thinking of starting a blog. What's holding me back is that as a full-time student/part-time professional I'm afraid I won't have enough time to regularly post. Does anyone have any tips/advice on finding time to write? Should I just forget my inhibitions and go for it? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I guess the relevant question is what harm would come if you did end up not keeping up with it?

Or take photos of your surroundings--as long as you're telling a story, you're promoting a piece of your brand.

Another trick is writing in series. A friend is writing a week of responses to the cultural, gendered and political aspects of Valentines Day (she's a theatrical director). You'll want to choose a series topic you like :-D

Rowena Briones My question is how do you approach a big name in your field or industry at a conference without looking or feeling totally awkward?

Hi Rowena,
How to approach a big name at a conference?
---------
1)If you have heard her or him speak, comment on something specific they said and share a personal anecdote on how it's true for you/your career/life. Even well known people like to know people were really listening.
2)Ask them an opinion advice question in their field. Something like "What is THE most important advice or step ..."

I liked your question and hope to connect in this Thurs. night at 8pm.

Kim N. Campbell How long does it take to build a substantial network? I'm looking at less than a year before graduation and am realizing that I could use some major improvements in the networking and personal branding side of things. What strategies have been most helpful to growing your network or building your personal brand in a short period of time?

While I am sure I can get in on the twitter thing now, I just want to develop more a of a blogging habit first. I'm in this stage where I'm still deciding what the darn thing is about. :)

@ Melissa, I love that idea too. Will definitely try to find job fairs pertaining to social business or progressive nonprofit work.

Thanks Guys! I love this network

For ex. I'm in publishing - so I contacted the folks who run the publishing business conference and expo (attendees are normally head execs at publishing companies) and asked if they needed volunteers to work the fair. I sat in on some great sessions and learned about what pub execs were learning about. I talked to speakers & introduced myself.

I also volunteered for a bookfair and worked that & met authors. Professional environments like these are great.
