About Me

Robin Thomas is a blogger and freelance writer on a mission to conquer quarterlife, one crisis at a time.

At nine years old, Robin penned her first short story, My Brother Is An Alien, and has been expressing herself through short stories, poetry, plays, and song lyrics ever since. After utilizing Facebook notes to express her thoughts on topics such as hip-hop, personal growth, and various cultural criticisms, she sought to reach the masses through launching the blog, Confessions of a Skinny Black Girl in August 2007. What started as a an entertaining passtime became a tool of survival, as Robin went on to detail her lifelong battle with clinical depression through deeply personal and honest blog posts. By depicting her illness, Robin continues to advocate for the tolerance and treatment of mental illnesses among African-Americans in her writings. Her new blog, The Life & Times of Robin Monique, follows her in the next phase of her journey and be viewed on the Brazen Careerist, a community of top Gen Y thought leaders.

Robin, along with partner Christine Taylor, is currently developing Polished Cleveland Magazine, an e-zine for young minority professionals residing in the Greater Cleveland, Ohio region. The publication advocates a balanced lifestyle for its readers, featuring articles on culture, community involvement, professional development, and local entertainment and nightlife. Through PCM, Robin plans to empower her peers and contribute to the overall economic and civic growth of her hometown. She currently serves as the publication's Editor-in-Chief.

Robin specializes in opinion-editorial pieces on topics such as: Hip-Hop, Politics, Love & Relationships, and Personal Growth & Observation. In addition to editorial writing, Robin is also tackling fiction, developing "The Crisis of Bianca T. Shepherd," a novel about an African-American 20something in her search for purpose, fulfillment, and the meaning of life.

In the future, Robin plans to research mental illnesses among African-Americans so that she may further educate her community on the importance of mental health. She is also in the process of writing her untitled memoirs.

Whether editorial or fiction, Robin approaches her writing with a unique combination of wit, intelligence, passion, and raw honesty.
