I know for me, I may not shout it off rooftops at every moment, but especially after writing this, I think there are more people who will identify with me instead of look down on me.

@Renee, this is a great example of where twitter leaves out a lot of context. I don't think I ever really considered "heading to a fundraiser for the mission trip" bragging, but when I put myself in a reader's shoes, it can come across as "I'm doing something good for my community, what about you?" Thank you for that perspective, something I'm always happy to hear!

False

Real

The lie is that we have something to hide or be ashamed of or that somehow we are better than others because of who we live in. We are all sinners, just some are delivered and some are still trying to get "better". He loves you and He loves this world...it is about shouting it from the rooftops...and praying in the corner of your closet - for what you pray for on earth is bound in heaven when your faith is in the only one who has ever loved you unconditionally - we all talk about unconditional love, but there is only One who has ever shown it...and it isn't me, but He that lives within me. And for that, all I can say is "Thank you Daddy!". :-)

Iz As far as promoting your blog goes, has anyone out here considered going outside of the internet? I know that there's a stumbled on tribe going on, but the best methods of promotion usually involve going directly at the people. Since a lot of you have business oriented blogs maybe it would be best to do up a business card of sorts. A tiltle of a blog post beneath the Brazen Careerist logo (if you can get permission).

Molly Schoemann I have become increasingly suspicious of those who say that it is entirely possible to make a living strictly from maintaining and promoting a blog. I don't see how this is possible for most. Am I a huge cynic to treat these kinds of claimants like they're snake-oil salesman? It feels like the 'get-rich-quick' pyramid scheme of the aughts. Or do I just need to BELIEVE? Is my intense skepticism self-defeating, or realistic?

Paul, thank you for saying it clearly and thoroughly about the reality of "living off one's blog."

I think, if we are going to rely our entire income on blogging then we should call us writers instead of bloggers. If we intend to stay in the bloggerfield, then what Penelope Trunk has been doing looks like a good option to me: the blogger keeps his profession (or day job) and blog out of love, the audience read his words out of love, then the audience uses the blogger's service because they believe in him. Penelope has been working full-time and also has been writing because she loves to do so, we have been reading her stories because we love her writings, and here we are in Brazen.

I also think what Penelope has done is scalable. If you have a professional service and get one or two customers on monthly basis from your blog, isn't that enough to sustain your life?

You may have to make some tweaks to each of the plugins (they will be listed by name) in order for them to show up. However, hashtags provide a convenient convention for everyone to refer to a particular topic. For example, Oracle OpenWorld 2009 attendees were encouraged to use the #oow09 hashtag, which made it easy to find information about the event, and made it easy to refer to the event.

One danger, however, is that creation of a hashtag doesn't guarantee that everyone will use it. For several months, I was using the #openworld09 hashtag until I found out that (most) everybody was using #oow09. For a discussion of the decentralized nature of hashtags, see http://empoprise-bi.blogspot.com/2009/09/empo-tymshft-oow09-hashtag-emer...

Mehul Kar Just went through and followed a bunch of tweeters. 5 rules of thumb for picking people to follow: 1) less than 1000 followers/following (500 if i wanted to be really strict) 2) listed less than 50 times (25 under tougher standards) 3) front page tweets were a good mix of RTs, links, and pure text tweets 4) description didn't say "online marketer" <

One of the reasons for #1 was that I am NOT a new user, and am already following 200-250 "industry leaders," so it's hard to find someone in a new industry who is original or interesting. Plus, I'm at the stage (as John said, not the same stage as everyone) of making 2-way connections rather than just following. So, I wouldn't want to get lost in the crowd of someone with 10,000 following.

#2..i agree with you on this one..could be easily eliminated, but along the same lines of thinking as above.

#4 only reason I hate internet marketer is because i went the "spam-add" route for a project I started earlier, and 99% of the followers I got were online marketers (and a high % of those were automated) PR people are not so bad actually..except they usually violate #1 and #2.

Thanks for the responses though!
