Rebecca Mcneil For many Gen Y'ers we'd rather share an apartment in the city than own a house in a cul-de-sac. We want freedom and mobility and desire to travel more than any previous generation and be 'location independent.' Check out this article on the subject: http://www.jsonline.com/news/85915137.html

I think the flexibility of having an apartment and being able to move quickly, when need be, is a good thing. And, I think it's vitally important we all be financially secure and on the road to financial independence ourselves before considering the prospect of getting married and having children.

Rebecca Mcneil Ah, I just saw your other comment on stints teaching overseas and I agree-it was once what I wanted. Now, I have been there and done that. So I am reflecting on the experience as I hire others to teach overseas and seeing if it appeals to location independent folks. I think there's definitely more freedom in teaching overseas in one respect, even though my career is more location independent now! Good food for thought.

Rebecca Mcneil Would anyone consider teaching English overseas as a location independent career? Any thoughts?

I have looked into teaching English overseas as a career... I jut returned to the states from Greece, where many of my friends did just that. Another friend is teaching English at a university in Tokyo and told me that there are good Master's programs that incorporate a more "academic" version of the TOEFL so people can keep traveling and teaching. I will be looking into that as well! Thanks again for the article!
