Peter Burgin I own and operate a web design/development business, but I want to branch off and do presentations on how to use web technologies. I already have done presentations at my local library, which landed me some really good reviews that I am now using to approach my Chamber of Commerce. Are there any professional presenters here who can share any tips? Thanks!

Also, Toastmasters is good. But it sounds like you have a good set of presentation skills. Now you need some marketing and a pitch to land new clients (beyond the COC?). Ramit Sethi has good tips on identifying markets and future clients and how to sell your new ideas.

I'm joining Toastmasters to help with the public speaking although I'm not too bad.

Would like to hear how things progress for you.

Cary Thomson On Thursday I interviewed for a internal promotion within my department with my current boss and three colleagues. I was nervous so I don't think I expressed my self as well as I might have done. There's two questions in particular where I could have given a better response. Do you think it's appropriate to approach my boss to give a fuller reply. if so how - in person or email? I really need to do this in the next 24 hours as the interviews have already concluded. Thanks for your help.

TOP IDEA: Ryan Paugh I was really excited to be featured in the most-recent edition of the Isthmus (http://bit.ly/bNaaWk) talking about job hunt strategies that UW grads are utilizing. I talk a little bit about Brazen, but mostly about the future of the job search. Despite the down economy I'm optimistic. I see recent grads taking bigger risks and putting themselves out there in ways they wouldn't have done 5 years ago. They're being more proactive than ever. What do you see recent grads doing differently?

Reply to Barbara,

Career choices are extremely important whether you are 20 or 55. Our country was built on industry (farming, coal, steel, manufacturing). It does not resolve the other half or 3/4 of the economy where we are employed (teachers/health/social services/marketing). We are not all suited to start a business, we have to find that 'nitch' that suits our well being, experiences, and education.
