I'm a 24 year-old who just moved back to New York after spending two years living in Brazil. I'm currently searching for a full-time job, and doing freelance writing and translation in the interim. I write riogringa.com, as well as Transparent Language's Portuguese Blog.
I graduated summa cum laude from George Washington University's Elliott School of International Affairs in 2007 with a double major in Latin American Studies and Spanish.
I have worked for a variety of organizations, from government to non-profit to the private sector. I interned in Congress, and I've worked for several non-profits, including NYC & Company, the Waterkeeper Alliance, CARE International, Population Services International, and the Robin Hood Foundation. While abroad, I taught English, did English voiceovers, and did freelance writing, translation, and consulting work.
I love traveling and living abroad, and have also spent a lot of time outside of the US. I did two summer exchange programs in Spain, and spent two college semesters in Latin America: one in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, and the other in Buenos Aires, Argentina. I speak fluent Spanish and Portuguese.
I have a strong commitment to volunteerism, social development, and human rights, and have done volunteer work all over the world. In high school, I was a volunteer EMT and preschool assistant. In college, I taught English, math, and pre-school for Even Start in New York and Washington, DC. I taught English in an impoverished community in the Dominican Republic, as well as in an inner-city school in Argentina. I spent nearly two years teaching ballet to slum children in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. I have been volunteering for the Bring Sean Home Foundation since October 2008, in an effort to return an abducted American child from Brazil.
In college, I helped co-found Balance: the GW Ballet Group, and volunteered in the GW Study Abroad Office.
