Sabera (Kapasi) Photographer I've always wanted to know what fellow gen-y'ers think about this: Do you behave differently at work and outside? Are there dimensions of your personality that you control / curb at the workplace?

It was then that I realized that I didn't have the appropriate balance in my life to be able to turn the work behaviors and social behaviors off and on as required. It's a great point to bring up, and also a great one to measure by your work/life balance - because it is indeed a balance.

The good part was I was always over-cautious and as a result formal initially. Yes, I felt stifled, but as I got to know more of my team, I opened up and realized I was truly being myself with them.

@Kate - you said it. One has to adapt to different situations all the time. It's like playing different 'roles' everytime you are in a different social setting. I realized how important this really was after I got married :-)

@Rachel - It still is a challenge to me on how to give away just enough info about my life outside work to professional contacts, just so that I don't come across and boring and stuck-up. Maintaining that balance is key. You can't give away too much, and you want to keep what you share to neutral ground. I struggle too.

In more contemporary literature I would have to say Jim Loehr's "Power of Story" has been the most influential to me.

Rachel Hi everyone! I went to a fantastic networking event last night and I wanted to share the information on the speaker as he had a lot of great things to say on being accountable in business - it was really insightful and makes you think how important accountability is in the workplace not just from others but from yourself. Check out partnersinleadership.com or the book The Oz Principle by Craig Hickman (he was the speaker). Really good stuff for us striving to make a difference in the workforce!

Z. Kelly Queijo Greetings to everyone in the Entrepreneurs group! I just joined and look forward to this open exchange. I started SmartCollegeVisit.com as a travel planning and information site for college-bound teens and their families. The blog and information phase launched in Nov. The next phase will bring college search and travel booking tools. If you have any stories you'd like to share about your experiences visiting colleges, whether as a teen or future grad student, I'd love to chat with you.
