"They say IQ is a fair representation of a person's intelligence, but a better predictor of real life success is EQ which is emotional quotient. We can make a rough parallel in business. Decision theory can help you plan things well, but to win in the marketplace, you need to use game theory."--an introductory speaker before my 1-hour talk on game theory at an Indian business school NMIMS in Mumbai

To make smart decisions, you need both ingenuity and flexibility–understanding what others do, but ultimately focusing on a personal best response. I summarize this philosophy by the phrase "mind your decisions." I believe all will be well if you use your mind for your decisions, and mind only your decisions.

About Me

I studied economics and mathematics at Stanford University. I write a blog Mind Your Decisions to discuss game theory and personal finance with college students, recent graduates, and anyone interested in making strategic decisions.

My blog has greatly helped me in my career and in my life. I am especially grateful to those who have highlighted this website in the press/larger media, including Yahoo Finance and the New York Times Freakonomics blog.

My interest in blogging started from my passion for game theory, the science of strategy. Personal finance is full of strategic players-basically every one you deal with tries to profit off of you. Game theory tells you how to improve your bargaining position and strategy. I express my views in a popular weekly column Game Theory Tuesdays.

And finally, a little bit of a personal note about me. I am a math nerd at heart and numbers are second nature to me. I have been teaching and tutoring math at all levels for about ten years now. I'm very much against learning rigid financial "rules" and doing unnecessary mental computation. I focus on concepts and theory that you can apply to a broad range of problems. If you need to crunch the numbers, just use a calculator or spreadsheet. The brain is made for thinking.
