Great point on the celebs and sports writers. I follow Adam Schefter and I love when he says "Filed to ESPN:" He is giving us information that we normally would have had to wait until SportsCenter came on. I think he's a valuable tweeter... especially as a sports fan. He's also a trusted reporter and I believe has added value of those that are less accurate.

We all have people we follow as a guilty pleasure, I think. Rainn Wilson is hilarious. I know I'm not going to get something to add to a proposal, but it may be GREAT around the water cooler.

Rebecca Thorman Are you a financial burden on your parents? WSJ recently argued that because more young adults have a "failure to launch" that parenthood is too pricey (http://bit.ly/9mlHdk) - they ask, would your decision about whether to have children, or how many to have, be different if you knew you would have to support them financially well into their twenties? Personally, I always grew up desiring to support my mother as I got older, not for her to continually support me. To each his own though :)

I don't think there's anything strange about avoiding a website that has had massive issues with its privacy policy and that owns anything you post on it forever and ever and is really difficult to leave because it won't let you really delete your account.

Also, lots of people aren't on Facebook. It doesn't mean we're wackos. It just means we don't like Facebook. And I think our numbers are growing. The most popular post on my blog for the last 18 months has been the one about why I left facebook.

I think the company has a right to ask you to not discuss personal beliefs while at work. While working at a given company you are expected to represent that company's beliefs and not your own. That said, I think there are probably companies whose mission aligns much more closely with your own and would welcome having such a strong believer as part of their team. I would strongly recommend you reach out to these types of organizations and see if they are hiring.

Unfortunately, we do give up certain rights when we agree to work for a company. That is why it's so important to find a company that aligns with our own beliefs. And, when we find that the company we are working for does not align with our beliefs, why it is important to move on.

I think this is true far beyond Jesse's very specific religious case study, and is true with any belief. If, for example, you found out the company was doing something illegal, would you leave? What if the company offered you some of the proceeds?

As someone who works freelance, I think it's important to choose your clients carefully; but I also think there are times where you need to think critically about where exactly your personal lines are and decide that sometimes perhaps your personal beliefs have to take a back burner (not necessarily ethical beliefs, but other personal beliefs).

An interesting recent example is Elana Kagan's nomination as supreme crt. judge and the controversy around the role she played in trying to ban the military from recruiting on Harvard's grounds since they do not allow gays in the military. Essentially all she did was sign a document supporting a law suit saying this should be allowed to happen based on the idea that Harvard would not allow any other un-equal opportunity employer to recruit there, but it was over turned.... they were allowed to recruit anyway.

I'm not saying one is more prone to stress than another, or that one is under more pressure than another (I also don't think men are detached - I think their reaction to stress is often incorrectly perceived as detachment), but I think we really do experience things differently.

There is a decent body of research suggesting men and women have different brains, and therefore internalize things differently. This is an interesting read:

In my personal experience, one big difference I find is that when I feel overwhelmed and at a loss for time, I feel equal stress about, for example, a project at work, errands I have to run, housework that's fallen behind, family I haven't seen in a while, etc. Basically, if I'm late on a project at work and behind on my laundry, internally, both cause me equal amounts of stress.

A lot of the women I know have this same experience, whereas a lot of the men I know don't. They may equally share the housework, but internally, they would give higher priority to the late project at work.

So maybe it's the way we prioritize that's different. From what I've described, do you have a similar experience?

If I allow myself to let go and make time for me, I do feel a little out of control, but I do gain perspective on what is a top priority and what is not. I don't think it's a male or female issue - just a human nature issue.

It would be like me calling all of the obese people at my job morons and unintelligent. Why do they continue to stuff their face if their Dr tells them it's going to kill them? If we all did what we were supposed to do to be healthy then I'm sure the world would be a happier place...but we'll have to stick to what we have right now and hopefully work on improving our health as time goes on.

@ty - I understand your hurt and disgust. My best friends Mother (who was also a Mother to me) died at a young age from cancer that was attributed to smoking...but I still don't judge people because of that.

From a work perspective, my staff is allowed 1 hour for lunch and 2 fifteen minute breaks. I don't care what any of them do on their breaks and sometimes have to push them out of their seat to walk around so that they can get some movement into their body.

If I am engrossed in what I am doing I won't move my butt from where I am sitting. If I get up or go out for lunch...or a smoke..I definitely lose a little concentration so I usually work through my breaks and get up when I have completed my project. So when I come back to my desk I am ready to start on something new.

I'm not a morning person either. It takes me til around 10AM to really get my brain going. I spend the morning doing administrative tasks that don't take too much of my brain power.

Some of the best advice I've ever received is to practice your speeches in front of people you know well. Like your boyfriend or best friend or mom or colleagues or boss. It's often harder to give a speech in front of people you know so if you can do that, you'll be set for the real thing. Even though my speeches went well, I can always improve - do you have any speaking tips to share?

On practice, I practiced my five minute "Ignite" speeech - 20 slides in 15 seconds each that advance automatically, which was a very good thing. I didn't really practice my other speech, because it was okay to be more conversational, which also turned out great. So I think it's a lot to do with the format. Engaging the audience is key, no matter what.

I think what made your speech compelling was your understanding of the line between where we as your audience understood Social Media and where your professional understanding was. Although I have not done much speaking myself, being a member of the audience I am always wanting to learn something new. That new knowledge a speaker can introduce almost always stirs up deep though and revelation. It's great!

I think the difference was that most of them worked for different parts of the company and in different locations. Now, it could be that everyone was fortunate and found their soulmate. Casual hook ups, on the other hand, usually come with more issues.

@Paul - that's an interesting concept, but I'm not sure it applies to my situation. See, I'm starting my own freelance writing business and need to choose a name. A name isn't something you can work at 20% but it is a major step in the process, and until it's done a lot of things have to sort of be on hold.
