TOP IDEA: Paula Patinella use Arts Integration to expand your innovative thinking

Penelope Trunk I am starting to feel like the slash job thing should focus on one career that is for money, and one career that is for self-exploration -- to figure out the next way to make money. I mean, no one is gonna do the same thing for 50 years. So, I am wondering if you guys think of a second career as exploratory or you think you need to make money from everything?

There is an old saying, "Jack of all trades, master of none." I have challenged it and have come out very happy as a young professional. I can do whatever I want and be confident in my success.

Not for everybody, but the smorgasbord works!

Of course the opportunity to learn may change my mind on a case to case basis. But generally, I'd take up a slash career not only because it helps me nurture another interest, but also because it can potentially be an additional income source.

John Gillmer Hi, everyone! I've just joined Brazen Careerist, so I may seem a little green with this post. Is there anyone here who, like me, has a strong compulsion towards re-using old, discarded things to create something new (e.g. an LED flashlight inside an empty ChapStick container)?

The light bulb can switch on.

Meghan Skiff Hi everyone! I'm the maid of honor in a wedding that will take place at the end of March. The bride is so fabulous that she is not requiring us to wear traditional bridesmaid dresses. We can wear any black cocktail dress we like. I'm torn between a few options and would appreciate your opinion! Meghan Skiff: Thanks everyone! I do believe I'm going with option # 1, I'll be sure to take pictures and share them with you!

Paula Patinella I prefer to have people listening to what I am saying rather than looking at what I'm wearing. I keep things simple, choosing solids over prints & being bold with rich colors. You can mix and match 2 skirts, 2 shell tops, 2 cardigans & make several outfits. Invest in some beautiful scarfs & learn how to wear them in original ways; European women do this. For traveling, it's a lot lighter to carry six scarfs than six outfits. For fun, I make jewelry which reflects my creativity & personality.

But I have to disagree about people not listening just because someone is not dressed in basics. Most prints and patterns are not distracting, same for most jewelery. Seeing and listening both contribute to how we understand what others are saying. So, I see nothing wrong in wearing creative and colorful outfits while presenting my ideas to others.

Sara Gonzalez Is anyone using virtual career fairs to reach out a larger talent pool? I work in HR with our Internship Program and we are looking into how we can incorporate them into our recruiting strategy.

Paula Patinella: We do have some recruiting done in virtual environments. There are several IBM SLURLS in Second Life. You can connect to people there.

James Lettiere Antoinette: My experience ( albeit not exhaustive ) is that not-for-profit / for profit visual & performing arts entities are the natural places for specialists in Arts Marketing. Run of the mill corporations are not generally interested in the arts. James

Art Marketing is crucial in corporate America. There is an increased amount of corporations (large and small) who are partaking in the arts - creating branded scholarships, programs to directly benefit their consumers. Corporations are finally realizing that dialogue can happen off the corporate ladder and on the beat and path of the consumer’s threshold. Therefore, experts in Arts Marketing are needed to help design environments for the brand and consumer to interact.

I'm constantly bringing people of diverse talents together to collaborate and learn from each other. We need more Arts Marketing (all arts, visual, performing, literary, etc) integrated into business and major corporations.
