I have worked mostly in the field of animal healthcare. I started in veterinary offices as a receptionist with the goal of becoming a veterinary technician. Once I reached that goal I found that it was not a career that would support me as an adult (unless I had a rich husband...which I don't). I did not really want to be a vet, but wanted to stay in the field. I went back to school and took some classes like calculus and organic chemistry, with the thought of getting into the research field. I got a job working for Merial (we make Frontline and Heartgard). I have been here for 7 years and in that time I have learned that working in a corporate environment is much different than working in a clinic. I actually learned that part very quickly, but actually learning how to navigate upwards in the corporate environment has not been as easy as I thought. I was doing things all wrong for awhile, but thanks to Penelope's blog and a lot of research I am learning. One thing that my research has shown me is how much easier the past 7 years would have been if I had a reaaly good manager and/or mentor. I have read avidly about good managment skills and realized how much difference that can make in a groups productivity. My favorite example being that of the USS Benfold (I highly reccomend you look it up). I would really like the chance to put this knowlege to work managing a group. Preferably in a clinic or at another animal pham company. I welcome any input from others on this site on ways to better my resume or any other helpful tips!
