TOP IDEA: Harriet May Right now our company is hiring, so I am reading a lot of resumes from young entry-level professionals. Many are terrible. I thought I'd share my thoughts and experiences by starting a new blog, http://resumemascara.wordpress.com. I would love to have guest posts! What do you think in general? Do you think this would be helpful to you/ something you would like to contribute to? Because I'm just getting started all criticism/feedback/suggestions are welcome!

Being a communications major with an emphasis in PR, I joined in order to meet like-minded students and enhance my learning experience. PRSSA is a national organization and has national professional chapters as well (PRSA). There were a variety of student organizations on campus that helped students to take their studies and apply them to the working world. We were encouraged to hold internships, attend student and professional networking events, and were aided in the areas I mentioned above. I would suggest joining a student organization to anyone-it really gave us a leg up when breaking into the workforce after college!! Although I did this in college, I think classes or workshops to teach high school students these skills would be a great idea!!

Nikita T. Mitchell I recently wrote a post called 3 Reasons Why Every Young Professional Should Serve on a Nonprofit Board (http://bit.ly/kxvmge). I'm now working on a follow-up post b/c of how many people have asked for advice in response, and I would love to know more about your experiences: Have you ever served on a nonprofit board? If yes, what advice do you have for other young professionals looking for such an opportunity. If no, why not?

Becky Benishek A friend of mine believes she is being sabotaged at work. The person doing it has a lot of power over many people, including her. It's funny how even the slightest ounce of negativity can impact us so much more than a whole day of positivity. Even if the situation gets resolved positively, the advice to document everything still holds. It'd be hard to build back trust after something like that.

I agree that in some cases, the person has to look to themselves to see if they're the actual problem, though sometimes the easiest way to see that is if the pattern repeats in subsequent jobs.

Words, ...MoreCameron, it sounds like the challenge isn't so much in identifying the best way to capture the ideas as it is to reignite the inspiration. Words, as you are finding, aren't as powerful in recreating the "kissed by the muse" experience for you. I've made it a habit to also collect digital images, both my own and of others. They reside in a folder on my desktop. Rather than bullet points for these, I write stream-of-consciousness phrases that distill the moment of inspiration. They're trigger words, not sensible on their own. When I face them for the first time to draft a post, I type as fast as I can before my inner editor makes her puckered-lip disapproving face at me. Then I walk away before I overanalyze and get blocked. Usually I'll do something physical, like run up and down the stairs, just so my butt isn't getting petrified at my desk. That gets my mind working again, and I'll either come back to the post right then or make a pact with myself to tackle it at a specific time.

As a person with Asperger's syndrome, I rely almost exclusively on online networking. I'm able to talk about myself in person, but only if conditions are favorable - very little crowd noise, and having the chance to "size up" the person beforehand, either through reading their profile or observing and listening to them.
