Akhila Kolisetty Recently, I've been thinking about non-profit work culture. A lot of people prefer working at non-profits because of the better hours, but I feel like lifestyle shouldn't be a primary motivation. People should be so passionate that they're willing to do whatever it takes to further the cause. I think the non-profit sector should adopt business work culture, especially the fast-paced and challenging nature of the work. I feel like current non-profit culture is too laid back. What do you think?

I also think that the "why" you work for your org helps determine the amount of hours you put in. I've definitely put more hours in at some instances because I wanted the project/event/etc. to succeed.

Some people (myself included) want to dedicate their career to achieving social change. It's not enough for me to volunteer, and I don't think of it as "volunteering" my career. Social change IS my career, and I don't see working in a non-profit as a liability, but a positive thing. I definitely think that there are things we can change about non-profits, but overall, I don't think the answer is telling people not to choose to work for non-profits as part of their career. The answer is to make it an even more productive and fulfilling experience.

I am currently working on an initiative called, The Power of Peace Network. The mandate of the organization is to support diverse cultural and social self-expression using modern tools of information communication technology. We hope to set up a global system whereby individuals are able to film and document their social realities and be able to share them on a wide distribution platform.

There are so many people in this world doing great work and we want to find a way to promote that work using cost effective and widely available technologies to do so.
