About Me

Hi!

Name's Nechiele Whittington (most people just call me Necie...unless I'm in trouble) and I'm new to BC. I've had quite a varied employment history; I've worked as a teller, a waitress, eyeglass blocker, administrative professional and IT newbie. I'm married and have four cats--usually, that would enable me to use the "Crazy Cat Lady" title, but since there are four cats and two people, the cat:people ratio is even. That's my story and I'm sticking to it!

Computers have pretty much always been a hobby of mine so it made sense for me to enroll in school to study them. I'll readily admit that it took me a long time to make the leap back to school but what can I tell you? I'm a late bloomer. I have built computers from the ground up though--my main home box is currently running Windows XP with three (or is it four) virtual machine applications (I'm really partial to VMWare; it seems to have the most functionality). I've changed the guts to my little Gateway Tablet PC but haven't taken apart the HP All-In-One Touchscreen system yet.

Since going to school for computers, I've come to a realization. While I love knowing the ins-and-outs of PC's, I like knowing the 'why' of them more. I like using my knowledge to track down issues and follow the clues to solve the riddles. Turns out, I dig the 'forensics' better than the programming. Guess I should have known that, seeing as my favorite shows center around solving cases (Criminal Minds, NCIS, NCIS: LA, Hunter, Stingray, etc.) So, my goal is to join up with a forensics, crime-solving team and enhance my coolness skills!

Work History

  • CACI International
  • Information Security Specialist 1
  • June 2011 to Present
  • In this role, I work as a General Clerk for the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) in their Investigations Management and Services Division. I wear a lot of hats for this position. I handle computer technical support for OPM investigators equipment (which includes building laptop images, assigning equipment to field staff and troubleshooting/repairing non-working equipment). I also work closely with the CACI/OPM Compliance team, dealing with Certification & Accreditation support (which includes analyzing, defining, implementing and documenting security controls for various applications and systems, as well as monitoring the effectiveness of security controls for internal and external OPM systems and applications). Additionally, I work closely with the CyberSecurity team to monitor network activities and ensure a safe digital and physical environment.

  • GrafTech International
  • Project Assistant
  • March 2010 to November 2010
  • I joined the GrafTech family on a part time basis, handling their Central Engineering Project Database. It's a SQL based application. I don't have a lot of database management experience but so far, what I've learned was a lot of fun. It was a challenging environment-they taught me something new everyday and my problem solving skills are certainly getting a good work out!

  • ACE USA
  • Sr. Underwriter Associate
  • May 2006 to March 2010
  • As an Underwriter Associate for ACE Risk Management, I handled clearance, submission, implementation, support, and/or cancellations for our workers' compensation, general and auto liability policies on a national and commercial account scale. I have maintained a 98% renewal retention ratio with an equal quote to bind ratio. I additionally exceeded company service standards for policy/document issuance.

In this role, I was responsible for creating, maintaining, and/or removing policy information from ACE in-house information database. I was also responsible for issue resolution for ACE, our clients and individual states as necessary.

I handled the on-site desktop support technician and liaison between ACE and IBM.

I was commended on my reduction and subsequent maintenance of the lowest volume of Branch Quality Issue items within the region. I've been responsible for showing a significant reduction of state issued fines and penalties during my tenure.

  • ACE USA
  • Executive Assistant
  • October 2003 to May 2006
  • In this role, I was responsible for all administrative duties for the ACE Risk Management Home Office Finance team (six upper level management officials); this included routine correspondence (using MS Word), time keeping, calendar maintenance (using MS Outlook) and extensive domestic and international travel arrangements. It was also my duty to generate and maintain monthly, quarterly and annual financial reports (using MS Excel), presentations (using MS PowerPoint), and maintain confidential financial records for the entire ACE Risk Management team (multiple regions).

Additional administrative duties (including the use and maintenance of various office machines) were included.

One of my main accomplishments in this role was the reduction of down time due to computer issues. With my computer information systems education, I was able to repair most desktop computer issues without impacting productivity.

  • CACI International, Inc.-Commercial
  • Contractor
  • November 2010 to Febuary 2011
  • I worked as a contract employee in the Department of Justice: United State's Attorney's Office for the Western District of New York in the Buffalo office. This was an extremely interesting opportunity for me as I got to learn quite a lot about the inner workings of the Department of Justice. I worked in the newly combined AFFLU group (a combination of the Asset Forfeiture and Financial Litigation units) where I provided various levels of technical and administrative support to U.S. Attorney's and their teams. I handled several different projects including designing and formatting computer based forms, initiating the design and implementation of an internal web page for the unit and the collection of civil and criminal debts. This was definitely one of those once in a lifetime opportunities that I am so glad I got to experience!

  • Visium Staffing
  • Project Assistant
  • April 2011 to June 2011
  • During this short term contract, I worked for the Cleveland Clinic in their Network Services division. I handled the creation and maintenance of the documentation for their DMZ Datacenter migration. I communicated with internal and external clients who used a Cleveland Clinic VPN tunnel for data transfers to let them know of the upcoming migration and to ensure all of their contact and VPN tunnel information was up to date and correct. This was an interesting opportunity as I got to learn about how client to site and site to site VPN tunnels were created and maintained and I got to work with a great group of engineers, technicians and administrative staff.
