I know I need to network to help me find my next career and I've already joined some Network Roulettes here on Brazen and joined a book club but does anyone have any advice on how to network when you're new in town and don't know anyone? Thanks for reading!

I missed the familiarity of knowing where things were and who to go to for help on top of trying to create work and a new life.

Hi, I graduated from university last year and just completed a year of volunteer service in the Bronx. I have been applying to jobs in the nonprofit sector for a few months now and have only received a few responses. I would greatly appreciate any tips or suggestions anyone would have as to how to improve it. Thank you!

There are always tweaks (and plain old preferences that you can't get too worked up about.) The other big question I have though: how are you looking for the jobs? Make sure to be networking...if you're only answering online ads, you're already at a disadvantage. (Not that you shouldn't try...just don't limit yourself.)

I'm also a current volunteer, however an Augustinian one. I'm working in the Bronx as the Activities & Education Coordinator at Siena House, a homeless shelter for pregnant women & infants. My time here so far has only increased my desire to enter the nonprofit sector and start a career where I can address social justice issues such as poverty, hunger, homelessness & immigration reform.
