I am about to complete my undergraduate's degree in mechanical engineering - without about a couple of months to go. I wish to pursue a career in journalism. I was wondering if there exist any practices, or if there any tips you guys can give me, about building up a pertinent CV for my future jobs over my summer break, like, for example, how I can look for an approach prospective mentors.

@Melissa Perhaps one important point I forgot to mention was that, for my Master's, I'm aiming at international relations or anthropology. And then, after that, I want to write for a living. To that end, is there anything I can do now? Because, as of now, I have solicited quite a lot of people and their opinions and suggestions have been either varying or wavering. 121 weeks ago

Find something your passionate about and find a place to publishing work on that subject (anthropology, mechanical engineering, international relations). Even just posting on sites like ezinearticles.com or www.studentpulse.com give you links to work you've done aka Clips to show when you apply for writing jobs or send in queries. Also, writing on the topics you mentioned working in will help establish you as an expert quickly. 121 weeks ago

Hello all! I'm from south India, and I was wondering there was anyone from India in this forum. I'm a freelance journalist, blogger @ http://artisgratia.in and, over and above everything else, a mechanical engineer who's looking to land a career as a linguistic anthropologist.

Having been in the business for so long now, what do you think of your industry? Because I have known quite a few people who have said that its early years cause newbies to become disillusioned about what it offers in terms of job satisfaction. Is that true? 122 weeks ago

Media in India is yet to evolve properly. Till this day, it is power hungry, money matters everywhere. Journalism both as a mission and profession does not exist. Higher ups are too creamy, while recruits are kicked every which way. 122 weeks ago
