I'm hoping there is another opportunity to do this again soon. It is a brilliant and much needed community, for me at least. Thanks. 70 weeks ago

I never thought I would change careers so early in life, but after 5 years in television news I quit & started the wheels turning. I can relate to the people who leave a job not because they're unsatisfied by the pay but because of other important dissatisfactions like work environment, negativity, lack of challenge, vacation, time off, and others. Have others made the switch from a good paying job because of things other than money?

I'm preparing to quit my position as a tech writer, which I've held for the past five years, at the end of June. I've applied to linguistics programs and am figuring out whether I will attend CUNY or University of Delaware. My reasons for quitting are that tech writing isn't all that it's cracked up to be. Namely, I don't get to work at home and it's really difficult for me to sit all day non-stop and click a mouse. Besides the sedentary lifestyle and repetitive motion injury, I also feel discriminated against based upon my age. I realize this is a company or team specific problem, but it has really soured me on tech writing. I think the skills I've learned will follow me throughout my career as a linguist because my writing abilities are developed and I'm good at explaining abstract information.
Anyway, I'm interested to hear how things go for you.
Cheers,
