Totally agree that there's a UI problem with the reply button. I make the mistake all the time, but then I ask Ryan Paugh to fix it :) 134 weeks ago
Ryan Paugh:
Wouldn't it be great if there was a Ryan Paugh for all of life's little mistakes? 134 weeks ago

We are in the process of putting together a list of the top 50 places to work for Gen Y. I am trying to figure out the algorithm. So...

Opportunities for personal development. Good reputation (looks good on my resume for my next-next job). Superiors who I am not smarter than. 135 weeks ago

take a look at some resume templates and do a google for "hierarchy in graphic design." it's very dense, and not very readable. 135 weeks ago

General comment for Kim and others: find some way to export to a pdf. Resumes in Word can seem unprofessional.
Mike Darga:
Besides the reasons I mentioned, word doesn't allow you to tune your layout. You wouldn't create a magazine ad in Word. Just looks sloppy. 136 weeks ago
Mike Darga:
Your resume is the equivalent of an advertisement for yourself, so do yourself a favor and put some effort into how it looks. 136 weeks ago
Kim Hoffmann
After some good feedback on the old version, I have a new copy uploaded on my page. Anymore advice would be greatly appreciated!!
Kim Hoffmann:
Sounds good. I'll have to rethink a few of the accomplishment lists. Thanks! 136 weeks ago
David Galley:
Also suggest reading lots of job ads for jobs you want, then writing your resume to be closer to the required experience portion of the ads. 136 weeks ago
Susie Kirkland
Feeling uninspired by my resume. Thinking of scrapping the old one and starting a new one. I will post old & new tomorrow for feedback.
Sam Puri:
Hi Susie. I suggest that you list more of your accomplishments in each position as opposed to the responsibilities. 136 weeks ago
Mike Darga:
Try to get to 1 pg. It's a little dense & hard to scan. Try putting most recent jobs on top rather than on bottom - Every second counts. 136 weeks ago
Eric Schittulli:
If things going smoothly for you on STO, I'll suggest that you stay until the big launch. You need a "big" MMO's release on your resume. 137 weeks ago

Good feedback, thanks guys! 137 weeks ago

I sure know there's no "perfect", but are there some solid "dos and don'ts"? On a whole I am quite frustrated. Glad a group is here to help!
Mike Darga:
To me, a good resume is: Short, confident, easily scannable, fact-based (not too much squishy generic stuff like Good Communication Skills) 139 weeks ago
Sam Puri:
In my last role as a recruiter I would say to about 90% of my candidates to list their accomplishments as opposed to job responsibilities. 136 weeks ago

I've read so many different things and rules and whatnot, I feel generally lost...when do you stop editing and just go for it?
Mike Darga:
you're trying to get just a bit more money, a higher title, or into a more exclusive company, that's when really polishing becomes important 139 weeks ago
Mike Darga:
The more experience you have, the more difficult a resume gets to write, because you have to start choosing how to present that experience. 139 weeks ago

Question: Full first names subconsciously more capable-sounding? Not even my mother calls me Michael, but someone suggested it for resume.
Eric Schittulli:
Well, I think there no rules for that. That's really depend of the interviewer. But I cannot imagine that someone can be bothered by that. 139 weeks ago

Hi, I am happy to join and provide some contents on how to change a resume in a CV for European countries
Eric Schittulli:

This article was interesting - especially the opinion that experienced candidates can have 2 pages for their resumes. http://bit.ly/IOG9n
Caitlin Fitzsimmons:
2-3 pages is standard in the UK and Australia. I can fit a truncated version on one page but only if I go down to 8-point font. 140 weeks ago
Mike Darga:
Interesting. I'm certainly seeing more of them come through my office. As long as it's not someone entry-level I suppose it can't hurt much. 140 weeks ago

Hi guys, anybody read Cynthia Shapiro's book? I love it for many reasons but the resume tips were especially helpful: http://bit.ly/1O93Ni

I don't think it needs to be exclusive to resumes per se, but there are so many great copywriters here it would be nice to group them up. 141 weeks ago

Is there a really a good reason to enforce the 140 char limit? I like that they're short, but I've never been able to post without pruning.
Mark W.:
" ... add in fields for links and other media that people want to share" - definitely agree. Visible full paths in links would be desirable. 141 weeks ago
Jake DeVries:
I concur with the 140 char limit, especially in a group setting like this. Makes it really difficult for conversation stimulation. 140 weeks ago

Most of the lively groups I've seen so far are in the Q&A format, so I just started a group for resume feedback. So many great writers here.

I don't like the profile layout. What's the point of the interests and such if they're going to be so tiny?
Ryan Healy:
Hey Mike, what browser are you using that shows line breaks? 141 weeks ago
Mike Darga:
I'm using IE, but it seems to be a problem in Firefox too. Every place in my "specialties" with a comma is supposed to be a line break 141 weeks ago
Vanessa Alvarado:
I'm 22 in a similar situation. I talk about art, photography, ideas & projects. I don't really go out of my way to connect. Is it necessary? 141 weeks ago

I do a lot of reading about psychology. I'm obsessed with all forms of music. Drumming in Rock Band fills me with glee. I believe that if you make things well, making good things will come naturally.
