Mike Anderson I think I finally stumped Photis, and Drupal.org... I moved my site to another hosting (godaddy) and now my webforms submit, but to a blank white page... I think it might also be because of a whitespace before the <?php opening tag (not sure).

elizabeth What is the technical procedure for search engine ranking? all i know how to do is pay compaies for high search ranks. I guess what I want to know is what technical proocedure do these companies use and hoew they go about it. know what I mean. Thanks in advance everyone.

Its pretty tough to give you the "technical" proceedure for SEO, 3in a single post (obviously). But basically it comes down to 2 things.

1. Optimize your pages for no more than 1-3 keywords. Use them enough, but not too much.
2. Optimize your navigation structure to make it easy for the search engines to find everything.
3. Build links that point back to your site. And try to get good link text when you do it.

Thats really it. Simple but not easy. Consistency in number 3 is the key.

The search engine "crawls" the site from top to bottom. If you have navigation, put it at the top so it knows what other pages to crawl. If you have images, make sure you have 'alt' tags because it can't "crawl" images. Use heading tags to start off paragraphs of content, etc... These are pretty basic steps to get you started...

This may seem like a dumb question, but what exactly do people mean when they "running it"? I am jst wondering if there is more to it than responding to blogs. If you rely on ads, then perhaps running it would revolve around increasing your visibility, SEO, and promoting the site onto other networks.
i would say the big companies relied on heavy word of mouth and referal kinda thing to promote their site. Promote promote promote...

Okay - don't know where to put this, but I noticed an interesting SEO tip that hasn't been mentioned before. Google seems to penalize you (quietly) if even ONE of your sets of meta tags is duplicate to another page. Notice how it tells you in HTML suggestions. Through the digitial point keyword tool I noticed that I was completely dropping out of rankings for random search terms at random points. I was able to pinpoint it to duplicate meta tags on two of my pages (that webmast Tools showd

Mara L Hey guys! I need a little insight on something. I'm considering taking a web programming class(web design) since I'm visual and everything is on the internet these days. (I know I sound silly asking about web design). I know there are sites out there that make it easier, but I want it to add it to my skils work wize, building from the ground and up. The last class I took was in HS using dreamweaver. What program is more widely used in creating sites? The dreamweaver 8, cs3/4 or xhtml?

I learned that online classes are not for me (the two week window catered to my procrastination). It was an interesting class, and I did learn a lot (thanks to the provided notes, I have a good reference). It was a neutral experience, again because it was online. I took the class out of boredom from the weeklong blizzard on the east and because I did wanted to add something to my resume.

Then you will be able to associate the "What I Want To Do" with "How To Do It".

Perhaps you know a graphic designer that can give some insight into good visual design in relation to the web.
