Michael Odza Brief Biography
Ten thousand hours seems to be the threshold requirement for becoming an expert in a field, as mentioned in Malcolm Gladwell's Outliers. On that measure I've qualified in at least three separate although overlapping skills: writing/editing, especially on technology/science/innovation/business; marketing, especially Internet and social-media; and general smallco/startup management, at least up to 25 staff and $5 million in revenue (so far).
I've developed and applied those skills as president of a data center think tank/business network/conference organizer; pioneering leader of the web businesses of newspapers; founder of subscription publications and consulting practice on technology transfer, innovation and intellectual property; co-founder of a retail electronics chain; member of the launch marketing team for MTV: Music Television; and (to boast a little), at the time the youngest national sales manager in all of book publishing.
As you can see, I've worked in many media, always tending towards the new. I currently maintain three blogs, and am proud to be a moderator for the award-winning thinkernet.com blog/social network.
I was raised in academic settings (Berkeley, Princeton), schooled at Harvard, and worked in Boston, New York, San Francisco and currently in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
I maintain three or four blogs at any one time, reflecting my interests. Currently, read GreenProgressReport.com (on efforts to cope with climate change); RippedRead.com (my business reading, fat-free); and OdzaConsults.com (web and social media business tips).
Exchange courses at Harvard Medical School (neurobiology) and MIT (artificial intelligence)
