TOP IDEA: Bennett Phillips Three-part question: What do you think of the credibility of online education? Would you hire someone with a degree from an online college if you were in a position to do so? Which online institutions have the best reputation?

Some of them may have started out with good intentions but they have become for profit ventures with low grad rates who accept anyone, and they need increased scrutiny.

My fields don't lean themselves to online degrees and I wold not hire someone with an online degree but I understand business degrees from some of these schools do ok.

Of course all the scandal regarding the industry in recent years hasn't made my opinion any better.

I am a graduate with a BSB/A from University of Phoenix and am currently having difficulty finding a job in relation to my degree. I wondered if employers were hiring more people with a degree from a traditional setting. I worked very hard online and invested a lot of time everyday and received a high GPA. I wonder if employers even care about a GPA. Phoenix is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission, in comparison to other schools its accredited much the same. If I were to do it over, I would have attended in a traditional setting due to the fact that online was relatively boring and I could have learned more from the experience of a college setting.

Brett Kunsch The holidays are upon us, but does the stress have to be? I'm trying to follow Suze Orman's advice: "People first, then money, then things." http://bit.ly/b6lKQ6 How are you all dealing with the stress of gift/food/travel purchasing and party-going coupled with the fear of debt and lack of time?

No gifts required unless it's something you feel we absolutely have to have or try like a food. The biggest gift that we ask is 1/2 hr to an hour of one on one time to just talk with each person.

Frankly I prefer not to get any gifts and that includes gasp... "jewelry" which used to be a favorite of mine.

That 1/2 hour to an hour you could spend with someone enjoying a cup of cocoa, you instead spend finding a gift they'll forget about in a month. I'll forgo whatever gift it is for some time with my favorite people.

Food, drink, music, and games is a cherished experience. And it's low on the stress meter (unless you have a family feud, as @JRandom warns).

Brett Kunsch There are 44 days left in 2010. We have a crystal clear deadline to complete a goal: 12:01am, 1/1/11. I don't want to wait until the beginning of the New Year to get to work on something BIG. I don't want to set another resolution that has no deadline. How about you? http://bit.ly/coTUeO

Make sure that you are the master of the task list and you put the most valuable items first. Do not get stuck in the check-off or first-in first-out approach. It is all about priorities.

JenG Ever wondered about connection between money and happiness? As I went through my own career design process, I had a hard time unraveling my desires for increased income. Sadly, the literature can be confusing and is rarely helpful in crafting your own direction. I offer my analysis of the some of the primary studies and then tell you how to use them. http://su.pr/60XCKk

I think sometimes I'm a bit disappointed by basic human nature. Then again, I think the comments on this post are as good as the post itself! :)

Motronea- Nicely said, though the question that ties everyone up in knots (or should) is how much money is necessary to achieve happiness? As Leslie states, the research shows the number to be just over $70K a year, but that seems awfully high to me.

J morgan- Well, I don't really believe that "if you build it, they will come." I think the point is you're better off making less money doing what you love than more money doing what you hate. Ideally, of course, you'd do both.

Leslie- Yes, the study you are talking about is linked in my post. But I agree--as long as I have basic needs covered and a safety net, I'm pretty happy. Though I realize I can say that primarily b/c I worked a well paying job long enough to create a comfy cushion. Harder to do that starting from scratch.

Thanks for the replies everyone!

Michael Cruse: @Montronea I could not agree more. When a lack of money causes so much stress that it is almost impossible for any happiness to come through.

TOP IDEA: Katie Weilbacher HELP - too many meetings! My new job in Big Corporate is wonderful: I have great projects & a smart, sympathetic boss. But ours is a corporate culture of meetings - average 50% of my day. But a whole day being hijacked by meetings happens often. So - HOW DO I GET MY WORK DONE? My deliverables are getting delayed by meetings to talk about deliverables. How do I adjust? Can I, as a newbie, initiate any change? I feel like @meetingboy on twitter!

TOP IDEA: Michael Cruse Assess computer and technology needs based on actual needs and not perceived needs. There is a huge difference between thinking about what is needed and putting in the effort to understand what is actually needed. How many items in the need list are really just fueled out of irrational wants and habits can be more challenging to discover than one might think. http://wp.me/pEmFi-An
