I currently work as a consultant to the Lesbian Cancer Initiative, a program at the LGBT Center here in New York City.
My daily work involves writing marketing materials, producing video content for YouTube and blogs, promoting LCI at conferences and events, networking with health care professionals and social workers and all-around promotions.
I work at LCI part-time and work as a babysitter for a super smart Upper West Side child (with the most awesome family) part-time.
Previously, I worked for six years at People magazine in various roles - intern, editorial assistant and reporter-researcher. I stalked celebrities, wrote a bunch of articles for the magazine and the dot com and generally had a lot of fun doing really wacky work every day.
I'm glad to be doing work that I really find fulfilling now while having time to work on my celebrity stalking memoir.
Building brand recognition and partnerships with community groups, individuals and hospitals; creating and writing promotional materials; filming and producing video/multimedia promotional projects for YouTube and the CenterBlog; creating efficacy surveys for various projects unique to LCI.
I love this job because I get to talk to and spend time with a child who's quite possibly the smartest and most socially aware kid on the Upper West Side.
Responsibilities include: Engaging the child in thoughtful and educational conversations that address his interests and appeal to his learning style; helping the child to navigate difficult social situations in order to bring about a sense of control and a positive self-image; helping with homework; making sure the child regularly attends after school activities and is on time for said activities; finding fun ways of filling time such as taking pictures with Santa.
Stalking celebrities, interviewing celebrities in person and on the phone, writing articles for the Screen section, writing captions, writing People.com articles, writing Passages and Chatter columns, fact-checking, all other duties as assigned.
