Melissa Malott Hi folks; I just posted an event for all Madison Brazen Careerists who love (or sometimes merely appreciate) our lakes. Clean Wisconsin just started a series of events to bring the next generation of leaders together on Madison's most relevant environmental issue: our lakes! Our events have been packed and proven to be excellent opportunities to network and learn a bit about clean water work over a tasty cocktail. I hope you'll join us at the Edgewater Pier. :)

Any thoughts on how this disconnect between the actions and consequences can be solved in a positive way?

Yes, there are ways to solve this in a positive way. But first, I have to add a point. While biz (tourism, leisure, etc) is affected, this is more than an economic issue, it's a public health issue. People can get very sick from this. Moreover, we collectively own the waterways, and the fact that we can't because of this problem means our rights are affected.

That said, there are positive ways to solve this, and part of my job is working on them. Farms in other parts of the state and country need phosphorus, and it can be sold if farmers can collect and dry it for transport. Additionally, we're working on creating a trading program so phosphorus credits can be bought and sold. Most importantly, if we push for sustainable practices on farms, this problem will be addressed. The fact that it's happening is because there are too many cows on too little land. This is something I'm interested in and researching currently.

What great questions. If people want more information, or have questions, feel free to write me at melissa.malott@gmail.com.

Wouldn't it be great if more people just cared about doing the right thing? I guess that competition is always going to be a key driver for businesses and organizations. Pretty awesome that a bunch of nuns beat them all out :)

Rebecca Thorman Guys, I need your help! I'm flying to Philly tomorrow for an evening wedding, and I have a ton of dresses, but am thinking they are boring. Which do you like best? 1 - http://bit.ly/7BIcAH - wore this to a summer wedding. 2 - http://bit.ly/6aBo73 - wore this to the Governor's Residence a couple years ago. 3 - http://bit.ly/6stAm7 - I've worn this a lot for birthdays and parties. 4 - http://bit.ly/4PWpca - the holiday party dress I already shared. Help! I really don't want to buy a new one.

I did wear that one... most of the girls at the wedding were in black, including the bridesmaids! (is that an East Coast thing?) so I was a little uncomfortable at first, but ended up having a fabulous time and got lots of compliments. Philly rocked too; wasn't sure what to expect when we came in from the airport, but the city totally grew on me in our short time there :)

Isao Kato I often hear the mantra "there is no such this as totally original works: creativity is about making interesting combination from existing materials" and might agree with it only because I don't know otherwise. I would like to know if there is a different opinion...

I think one artist portraying a scene better than another is the way social evolutionist want it. This is original art. If you do not believe me check out Thomas Hawk on Flickr As for physical art it can be achieved if you want it to.

I wouldn't have thought that the correlation between happiness at work and home would be so closely linked. I do understand that WE are the main reason for our own happiness, though I never quite made this connection to that fact. Great article. Thanks!

We spend years creating a meaningful and challenging career; we also need to create a meaningful life outside of it. I really appreciate this idea: Spend time exercising and with people you love. I've recently been doing this with friend-colleagues, and it's been rewarding. We challenge each other physically, and discuss big picture/personal challenges.
