May Why the European School for Management & Technology in Berlin is a great place for doing your MBA? Berlin is a creative hot spot in Europe, still cheap in comparison to London or Paris, the schools has a great infrastructure, careers services are exceptional... the school has budget. Job market in Germany is good.

Brandi Hello, Brazens! I hope you don't mind me joining your group, although I'm not an *offical* MBA (yet). I'm planning on going back to school next fall to get my MBA, and was wondering: what study aids helped you the most in prepping for your GMAT? How long did you prep? Obviously the folks at mba.com are claiming they have the best resources, but there seems to be a wide variety out there. Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

May Two books to prepare (in theory) for job interviews abroad: For the basics: Kiss, Bow or Shake Hands. Terri Morrison, Wayne Conaway. More food for thought: Riding the Waves of Culture. Fons Trompenaars, Charles Hampden-Turner. Or go to Fons Trompenaars Youtube videos

Marc Shiman: Hampden-Turner wrote a brilliant book years ago called the 7 Cultures of Capitalism. I see they still have copies on Amazon.

Peter Burgin When it comes to resumes, do you think that functionality should be top priority, or should there be a mix of creativity in there too? I ask because most of what I was taught says to follow a standard format, but I want some flexibility in how I present the information. How much is too much?

Peter, my top choice as an employer is functionality.

I used to be an HR manager. No matter how hard you try, after reading hundreds of resumes a day, you want information fast and easy. Too much outside the norm means the resume gets pitched because the reader is too tired to dig out the info.

This is even more critical in a high unemployment period. I posted one position earlier this year and got 300 resume and emails in 48 hrs. It was overwhelming and the ones that stood out for me were those that understood the position and addressed what I would look for.

Creativity in a resume is more appropriate in the industry that requires a lot of art or creativity.

I observed over five years with my students that there are a lot of differences in body language, how to show respect in a different culture, intonation of voice and how to present your CV material. We have cultures in Europe, somehow still reluctant to use virtual setting, e.g. Italy. I think it is such an important topic to know how to 'click' with the interview culture.

I also liked the suggestion (stolen from the following article on working abroad: http://www.prettyyoungprofessional.com/jobschool/working-abroad.html) to leverage alumni in the area you're looking to work.
