I currently work at William Carey University in Hattiesburg, MS. I work full-time as the External Relations Assistant and part-time as an adjunct professor of speech communication, teaching undergraduate public speaking.
I am in charge of assisting in the management of internal and external communication between William Carey University and the students, the faculty, the staff, the community and local and national media outlets. Some of my duties include:
- Writing press releases for the university
- Taking photos for the university
- Designing advertisements
- Publicizing university events
- Representing the university at annual meetings/conventions
- Coordinating interviews with local tv and radio stations
- Assisting with the creation of promotional publications
I earned my Master's of Science in Public Relations at The University of Southern Mississippi in 2009 and my Bachelor's of Art in Journalism and English from The University of Mississippi in 2008.
Goals:
After I work in the public relations field for five years, I would like to get APR certified (Accredited Public Relations).
I would also like to write freelance for magazines on the side and write and publish a book in the future.
I work in external relations for the university, doing a variety of different tasks. I take photos, write press releases, design ads, represent the university at meetings and conferences, and assist where I am needed. I also work part-time as an adjunct instructor of public speaking.
I wrote press releases, designed flyers, contacted key media and communication personnel and implemenedt other tactics to promote events and services for The Bottling Company and Topher's Rock 'N Roll Grill. Additionally, I handled clerical duties, such as assisting in payroll, bills and other financial matters for all of ALG, LLC's establishments.
I worked as a Graduate Assistant for the Mass Communication and Journalism Graduate Coordinator. My duties included organizing/managing graduate students' files, assisting in the organization of graduate meetings, and updating the graduate section of the Mass Communication and Journalism website.
I was also a Teaching Assistant for Mass Communication and Journalism 101. My duties included grading papers and exams, keeping record of attendance, and teaching the class when the professor was absent.
I worked as a sales associate for this upscale women and children's clothing boutique. My duties included promoting the store and sales events, completing inventory, dressing mannequins and setting up displays, and selling the merchandise.
