How to get a good job & keep it: 1) Be nice. 2) Work hard at what you do. Why does Seth Godin have to tell you this? It's called having a good work ethic. 3) Know yourself - do what you love as a hobby & make time for it even if it cannot be what you do as a career. 4) Expect to start at the bottom & be happy to learn. College doesn't teach you everything. 5) Volunteer. 6) Say no to some things when they impose on friends & family time. 7) Say yes to scary things. 8) Be humble.

You know what we need? Apps/social media that's geared specifically for selling services NOT just products and not something that will only work in Silicon Valley but something that will work at the low end of the bandwidth spectrum in any country. Something that you don't need new equipment or gadgets for. Something that bootstrapping freelancers and small businesses and startups the world over can use. So programmers and developers out there - can we make it happen?

About Me

I am a freelance journalist and editor based in Fremantle, Western Australia. I am always on the lookout to help someone communicate their ideas or to inform others and you can see my website at: http://www.marisa.com.au . I'd also be totally ecstatic if someone offered me an in-house job in journalism or publishing but I am happy to work freelance if you can't quite wrangle a permanent desk arrangement for me. ;-D

I write about games, music, science, health, environment, popular culture, and literature. I edit fiction, non fiction, academic work and general publications. When I am not working, I am writing a novel, playing a game, reading or working on someone's website for them. This usually means that I am pretty much glued to my computer screen.

I leave the screen to cook, dance, take photographs, socialize and play the drums very badly.
