Margaret Tagoe Hello. I am a person who finished an undergrad degree in Information Science at the University of Pittsburgh. My concentration was User-Centered design and I am interested in a position (whether government, non-profit, or private) as an entry-level web designer. I want to gain some experience primarily. Any suggestions?

Build a LinkedIn profile and start connecting with companies you like, and join professional groups. Develop your own skills in the meantime by developing websites. It will increase your knowledge, build your skills, and actually build your resume.

Let me know how I can help. I have a network here in DC, and a friend or two up in Pittsburgh. Also know a few folks in the Raleigh and Durham, NC areas.

I happen to work with the largest IT consulting sector in the world (the DC metro area) and can hopefully answer some questions about "how to get hired".

Margaret Tagoe I'm an undergrad student majoring in information science who is interested in human computer interaction and user interface design. I have decent skills in HTML and CSS with some experience in Java and C++. I can learn things pretty quickly if I need to and I'm a pretty hard worker. If you're interested, PM me. Please do so if you are offering jobs in Pittsburgh or Atlanta.

Margaret Tagoe Is this place still active? I'm a soon to be graduated student who is interested in human computer interaction. I haven't done much design work but I have worked on software and web projects which involve dealing with usability. Does anyone have advice for someone who would like to do work involving interactive design?

Build things that show off your skills, write articles about interaction design, network with other designers and with the type of people you'd like to work with, and never stop hustling. Even if you don't get hired right away, you'll have a sizable portfolio for your efforts, and that definitely can't hurt.
