Andrew Lander I'm trying to optimize my (for profit) company's social media presence across Facebook and Twitter. Does anyone know which social media dashboard is best? I preferably need something that can give me solid analytics along with the standard ability to update accounts and pages. I'm leaning towards Hootsuite. but any other thoughts would be helpful.

Erika Kerekes: A colleague recommended Argyle Social - I haven't used it myself but it's on my try-it list.

Jonha D. Revesencio: Thank you for the suggestions Maggie! I don't really like Hootsuite a lot so I'm gonna try how your two suggestions might work for me. :-)

Of course that was enough to pay for the blog and the hosting, so it was enough for me. Bear in mind that the vast, vast majority of people who blog will not ever monetize that blog past a few dollars a month. Why? It makes far more sense to ad spend on big blogs with established readership than to make what are effectively "bets" on small or, worse, tiny ones.

Benjamin Paul Schuman How old is too old to be lost? I know that most people will say, "You're never too old, it's all about the journey." But most people do seem to have a secret, implicit belief that you can indeed get too old. Thoughts?

@Rick- what you said about how the last time it felt like your career was on track was 22 is interesting. I feel like that's common. That age wasn't so long ago for me, but the differences between how I felt then and how I feel now are astounding.
@Maggie- I'd like to hear more about what you have to say on working vs. going to school and being in debt. That's the decision I'm working with and I'd like to hear more others' opinions!
@Robin- What you said about inertia and perpetual lostness is interesting. Inertia is tough for me. I often swing between a hyper feeling that I *need* to do something and laziness. It's tough for me to accept my current situation while keeping just enough anxiety to motivate me, if that makes sense. Thoughts?

Erika Gimbel I am a PR consultant who happens to be hiring for a social media position on behalf of my client, a nonprofit. They want someone who can take all their stuff, "SEO" it, and then manage all of their social media, regularly generate content, blog posts, etc. I'm not so sure this is a full-time job (maybe initially), but I'm curious to see what others think. This is a smaller org, not the Red Cross or something huge. Do you have a position like this or know someone who does?

Phase I -The media strategy and selection of channels (pts. of contact) will take some interactive workshopping with the leaders at the non-profit. Of course, it will be the planning that will be full time. Phase II - will be the actual development of content and execution of the plans and some realtime refinement - again f/t. Phase III Once up and running the review of effectiveness will require some refinements and adjustment from the content to the selection of channels. The performance reporting back to the leaders at the nonprofit will need to be operating at this time. Phase V - Only at this point will it be possible to scale back hours to a "maintenance of content" mode of operations. Of course, the role will require a continuous improvement component that will require a few hours per week. It is my belief that a seasoned pro will know how to do all this. If you would like me to script a job description for you, just call me. Unfortunately I am about 85% booked until Nov 30..but available afterwards...Robert Harris http://robertharris.webs.com tel. 044 758 0397

Maggie McGary I'm curious--is it just me or are other community managers noticing a huge increase in the number of community manager roles opening up? If you've recently accepted a new position did you go looking for it or were you recruited by a headhunter or someone at the company?

It's just a question of whether or not it will make sense after baby is born; and that won't make sense to you (or your husband) until after the baby is born. Not trying to be obtuse or anything. That's just the way it is with overachievers and external commitments and babies and being clubbed over the head with something that is surprisingly so much bigger than you. But don't worry, you're also a problem-solver: I'm sure you'll figure out what to do when the time comes. :)

Personally, I went back to work and made sure I was dressed up for work and not make the excuse of not looking professional because 'I just had a baby'. I needed this because I was allowed to work partly from home and I didn't want my appearance to make the impression that this was how I was working from home as well. If I looked professional in the office, then my colleagues could conclude I was looking (and being) professional at home too.

And never, ever show that the pressure is getting to you when you're at work. Just leave it for the privacy of your home. If you need to express breastmilk, do it as matter-of-factly as you can when you leave the room and do it. If it's time for you to leave, and everyone else is staying back (because work is their life), just do it with no fuss and tell them you'll see them next week (or whenever it is you're supposed to work from the office. I had to do that because I had to stop worrying about what everyone else thought of my 'special' arrangement. If they had a problem with it, they could take it up with their manager.

Granted, your workplace may be less stressful than mine but I hope my advice will make sense at some point.

Enjoy motherhood and all the best to your little bub! =)

Ryan Paugh Should you need an MBA to do Social Media Marketing? Brands seem to think yes while agencies are saying no. Check out this post and let me know what you think >> http://bit.ly/c0iDj0 I tend to think that while an MBA can be useful it's the real-world application of social media that's going to make a marketer good or bad. Experience is what counts most and it's difficult to learn that kind of stuff from a text book.

Rebecca Thorman Are you a financial burden on your parents? WSJ recently argued that because more young adults have a "failure to launch" that parenthood is too pricey (http://bit.ly/9mlHdk) - they ask, would your decision about whether to have children, or how many to have, be different if you knew you would have to support them financially well into their twenties? Personally, I always grew up desiring to support my mother as I got older, not for her to continually support me. To each his own though :)
