What do you think about changing your last name when you get married? I can't believe people do it, actually. I mean, you have an established track record in the workplace by the time most people get married. Why undermine yourself by telling people to call you another name? I have had so much trouble with my own name changes (people googling the wrong name, for instance) I can't believe people bring this on themselves. the practice strikes me as antiquated.

It had a lot to do with forging my own identity.
In a historical sense, surnames used to be a lot more descriptive of a person, which is why most surnames translate into medieval professions, locations, and traits. 89 weeks ago

I recently saw a job for a non-profit that really inspired me and I really wanted. I applied and haven't heard anything back. When researching the company I found they have volunteer opportunities. It is weird to now apply as a volunteer to this small company when I have already submitted my cover letter and resume?

I completely understand how hard it can be to decide what the company would appreciate. In this case, since you're fully willing to volunteer there anyway, you at least more than one talking point when you get your foot in the door. Besides, it'll give you a good chance to see what the place is like on the inside. 92 weeks ago

I am trying to undergo a career change from Medicine into Film/TV. I actually never started my career because I was in graduate school. So I have the problem of not having many jobs on my resume in the first place. The other problem is most of my experience is health/biology related.
Any advice to leverage what I do have into opportunities in the Film/TV field would be appreciated. Thoughts, comments, suggestions about the Film/TV field will be appreciated as well.

Nevertheless, I can only speak for actors or actresses: generally actors can come from almost any background, and this actually enriches the industry with much needed expertise in several fields. You can save your production team money on hiring experts to double check any medical facts declared in the scene; you can spot medical mistakes or inconsistencies, and so on. 122 weeks ago

And if you find yourself a niche, this will speed up the ladder climb upwards. The rest is about highlighting all your strengths, putting together a personal or amateur show reel then posting it on YouTube, increasing your popularity on YouTube, and constantly contacting agencies, sending photos, links to show reels, and subscribing to sites like StarNow. 122 weeks ago
