About Me

My original intention was to earn my BA in history and move on to doctoral studies within that field. However, I made the conscious choice at the beginning of September to pursue my life's true passion, which is to provide educational opportunities to the disabled and disadvantaged abroad. As a disabled person (I have two different forms of epilepsy), I have come to recognize how lucky I was to be born in a country with legislation like the Americans with Disabilities Act. While studying abroad in Mexico for the first time in the summer of 2007, I truly realized how devastating life is for the impoverished and disadvantaged who live in "third world" countries. Given my academic background and interests, I am focusing primarily on improving not only my Arabic and Spanish language skills, but also my grammar and technical use of my first language, English. My goal for the immediate future is to receive both my Master's of Divinity degree and an English as a Foreign Language teaching certification. I hope to get my first chance at teaching English abroad this March while volunteering at an orphanage established by a friend and her husband in Haiti.

Education

  • Eastern Kentucky University
  • Bachelor of Arts, General Studies in the Liberal Arts
  • 2007 - 2010
  • Majoring in Comparative Humanities was not an option at Eastern when I first began attending classes there. My specializations within this major are in Indo-European history, religion and theology, and foreign relations (concerning both Spanish and Arabic language and cultural studies).

  • Bluegrass Community and Technical College
  • Associate of Arts, History
  • 2005 - 2007
  • During my time at Bluegrass, I served my school in the following capacities: as the vice-president of the Alpha Phi Omega chapter of Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society, as the co-chair of the student Judicial Board, and as a senator for Student Government
